We headed down to Winton Motor Raceway this past weekend to support , and the grassroots racing community which brings Honda enthusiasts from all over to throw it all down, in a race against the clock to see who comes out on top.
Whether against yourself or others, we went out there to test a new setup after ditching the sequential, and opted to see if we could improved on our previous lap time of 1:26.4 - hoping to dip into the 25’s with better suited ratios on a factory H-pattern box.
After the first session, we soon realised the ratios weren’t ideal, because now our car made a lot more power compared to previous, and brakes which also didn’t stop too well.
As the day progressed, we surprisingly topped the time sheet with a 1:27.89, but gun driver Jeff David in his Honda powered Quantum GP700 took it back with a narrow 1:27.88, and remained on top for the most part of the afternoon. Knowing that we couldn’t do much with the blistering sun and high track temps, we sat out for a session, and saved our only set of brand new tyres for the last session of the arvo.
4pm came around, we chucked on a new front set of A052’s and seeeeeent it. After the dust had settled, Adam had set the fastest time of the day outright, but the lap didn’t count because the lap was completed under reds, so Jeff remained on top, and the friendly rivalry intensified.
Not knowing there was another open session, we thought the day was over, even more so when the new set of tyres was already used - In this sport, every tenth counts, and a set of session old tyres wasn’t going to be ideal, but we didn’t drive 7 and a half hours to eat a 500gr bacon and egg roll for nothing.
Stirred, but not shaken, Adam put on his helmet and gloves and went back out to leave it all behind - 1:27.78 and fastest outright for Honda Nationals 2025 (FWD, force induction, 200t and over)
