The most convincing gyro demonstration is often the simplest: turn it off, then turn it back on.
After the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, we had the opportunity to take a handful of interested boat owners out on an Island Gypsy 50 fitted with a ZGyro Z10.
There's no substitute for seeing stabilisation in the real world, so we conducted a simple test: gyro off, then gyro on.
The Z10 is designed for vessels up to 19 metres and 35 tonnes, delivering up to 30,000 Nm of anti-rolling torque while occupying surprisingly little space for a unit of its capability.
One of the things that makes the ZGyro unique is its practical design. The casing can be partially dismantled for installation and servicing, meaning many installations can be completed without major structural modifications.
But specifications only tell part of the story.
What really stood out during the demonstration was the change in comfort on board. The reduction in roll wasn't just something you could measure - it was something every person on board could feel.
This video shows one of the on/off tests from the day.
