"Tree Table explores the relationship between a tree in its natural form and the refined furniture that can be made from it. A sculptural section of the trunk passes through and supports a rectilinear walnut cabinet, creating a contrast between the organic form of the tree and the precise geometry of the casework. Rather than concealing the origins of the material, the piece makes the tree itself central to the design.
"The trunk continues through the cabinet and emerges above the surface, where its end grain and growth rings remain visible. A hand-cut butterfly key stabilizes a natural split while becoming a small celebration of traditional joinery.
"Designed to function as a console, the walnut case incorporates open storage and a hand-fitted drawer with a highly figured front. Tree Table is both functional furniture and an exploration of transformation—from tree to material to object—while allowing the character and history of the tree to remain visible in the finished piece."
