🛠️ Create your own custom CNC tool profiles with CNC3D Design Suite!

In this video, we show you just how easy it is to create a completely custom tool profile, giving you greater flexibility when setting up your tools and visualising your work inside CNC3D Design Suite. 🚀

While most CNC tools will typically fall into familiar categories such as V-bits, flat-bottom end mills and ball nose end mills, sometimes you have something a little different.

That is where custom tool profiles come in. 👌

You can define the dimensions and shape of your own tool, allowing CNC3D Design Suite to accurately represent it within the visualiser. This means you can get a much better picture of how your particular tool will interact with the job before you even get to the machine. 🖥️⚙️

In this video, we walk through the process and show just how quick and straightforward it is to create your own custom tool.

It is another part of our ongoing commitment to making CNC3D Design Suite as capable, flexible and useful as we possibly can for the CNC community. We are constantly working on the little details that make your overall experience better. ❤️🇦🇺

🔥 Turn ANY Image Into a 3D STL for CNC Carving, Completely FREE! 🔥

This is one of the coolest tools we’ve added to CNC3D Design Suite. You can now take an ordinary raster image such as a JPG, JPEG, PNG, BMP or TIFF and dynamically convert it into a real 3D STL model, then bring it straight into CNC3D Design Suite for further editing, CAD/CAM work and CNC carving. 🤯🛠️

That means a normal photograph or image can become the starting point for your own 3D relief carving.

🐶 In this video, we take a regular photo and show how CNC3D Design Suite interprets the image as height information to create a 3D relief. From there, you have a whole collection of tools to actually work with the model rather than simply accepting whatever the conversion gives you.

🧰 Built-in 3D Image Editing Tools

You can:

✂️ Select and isolate the background to remove it or flatten unwanted areas
🖌️ Use the Height Brush to manually raise or lower areas of your relief
🌊 Smooth rough areas and transitions
✨ Sharpen details that need more definition
🎈 Inflate areas to give features additional depth and volume
🪵 Apply textures to introduce different surface effects
📏 Control the relief dimensions and depth before creating your STL
👀 Preview the model in 3D while you work
💾 Save the finished model as an STL
⚡ Import it directly into your CNC3D project

With a little time spent manipulating the original image, you can create some seriously impressive custom 3D CNC carvings from your own photographs and artwork.

🧙‍♂️ Meet the new G-Code Wizard in CNC 3D Commander!

We’ve built the G-Code Wizard to make working with existing G-code files faster, easier and far more flexible. Whether you need to make a quick adjustment or completely reconfigure a job, you can now do it directly inside CNC 3D Commander. ⚙️🛠️

With the G-Code Wizard you can:

🔹 Scale your G-code** to change the overall size of a job
🔹 Rotate jobs without having to go back and recreate the original file
🔹 Adjust Z heights to quickly compensate or reposition your toolpaths
🔹 Tile G-code jobs so multiple jobs can be stacked together and processed in sequence
🔹 Create custom rules that modify your G-code automatically
🔹 Use the built-in rule wizard to guide you through more advanced modifications
🔹 Edit individual G-code lines directly from the grid view
🔹 Visualise your modified G-code before sending it to your machine 👀
🔹 Export using the original filename, create a variation or overwrite the existing file

The idea is simple: your G-code shouldn't have to be completely regenerated just because something needs changing.

The G-Code Wizard gives you a practical way to take an existing job, make the changes you need, visually check the result then get back to machining. 🚀

It’s another handy tool built directly into CNC3D Commander, designed to give you more control over your CNC workflow while keeping everything straightforward and accessible.

🚀 **NEW COMMANDER UPDATE IS LIVE!** 🚀

Version 1.1, Build 347 has just been pushed out, with some pretty substantial additions across Commander and CNC3D Design Suite, plus a healthy collection of bug fixes. 🛠️

One of the biggest additions is full FluidNC controller support directly inside Commander. 🎉

Commander can now connect to FluidNC-based controllers, read their configuration and let you edit the settings directly inside Commander. No digging around editing YAML files just to change a machine setting. 👌

We've also added some handy improvements to CNC3D Design Suite, including the ability to choose whether your Z zero is referenced from the top of your stock or directly from the machine bed. This is particularly useful for fixed-bit setups, repeat production work and getting through-cuts exactly where you want them. 📐

The canvas grid has had a little quality-of-life upgrade too, plus we've knocked over a bunch of bugs involving V-carving, decorative fonts, plasma cutting, SD card tracing and exporting open lines and shapes. 🐛🔨

As always, we're continuing to build Commander and Design Suite around feedback from people actually using them every day. Some updates are big new features, others are those little fixes that make everything nicer to use.
