Volvo Penta D13 engines are powering new search and rescue vessels for Coastal Safety in Türkiye, delivering the performance and reliability needed for critical operations.
Developed by R2 Design and Ares Shipyard, the vessels feature a self-righting design that places high demands on engine room space and weight distribution. The compact D13 engines are well suited to these requirements, while integrated power take-off (PTO) functionality enables onboard firefighting operations.
With an expected 1,500–2,000 operating hours annually, dependable performance and service support are essential. Backed by Volvo Penta’s established dealer and service network in Türkiye, these vessels benefit from long-term support to help keep them ready when it matters most.

NRMA Manly Fast Ferries is taking a proactive approach to reducing emissions across its Sydney Harbour operations, choosing to invest in technology that goes beyond current legislative requirements.

Working with Volvo Penta, the vessel has been fitted with the Volvo Penta D16 alongside an IMO Tier III aftertreatment system, bringing together the power and reliability required for demanding high-speed ferry operations with significantly reduced emissions.

The IMO III solution reduces NOx and particulate matter by up to 75%, an important step in NRMA Manly Fast Ferries’ broader decarbonisation journey.

And importantly, it’s not simply about meeting a standard. It’s an initiative the NRMA Marine team has chosen to undertake because they believe there is an opportunity to operate more efficiently and responsibly while continuing to deliver the performance their passengers rely on every day.
