Pensar Infrastructure Group Infrastructure Innovators

This National Water Week, we reflect on a simple truth captured in this year's theme, Water is Life. Water connects the tap in a family kitchen via an extensive network of reservoirs, pumps and pipes. It connects the flush of a toilet to the wastewater treatment plant, and back again to the recycled water that keeps the local footy oval green. It connects irrigation to the farmers who feed our cities, rivers to the reef, and the town of today to the community it will become tomorrow.

Our best work comes from working alongside our clients, local communities and industry partners, sharing knowledge, innovating together and building resilient systems that will serve communities for generations. Our projects aren't simply about the infrastructure delivered. They are about securing water for the future of healthy, prosperous and sustainable communities. Water security is a shared responsibility. This National Water Week, we stand alongside the many people across our industry who share that responsibility, and we look forward to continuing to contribute to improving Australia's critical water infrastructure into the future. We are honoured to have delivered two projects which have recently been named finalists in the Infrastructure Project Innovation category of the 2026 AWA Queensland Water Awards. The Great Keppel Island STP D&C with Livingstone Shire Council and the Mount Crosby Precinct Program – Critical Electrical Infrastructure (CEI) Project for Seqwater. Each project called on our teams to find practical, considered solutions in demanding settings, from delivering treatment infrastructure on a remote island to renewing critical electrical assets at one of South-East Queensland’s most important pump stations.

This recognition reflects the collaboration of our people, our clients and our delivery partners. We look forward to celebrating alongside all finalists at the gala in November.

We're proud to be delivering critical electrical infrastructure upgrades to the Terminal Services Building (TSB) at Brisbane Airport, the primary hub supplying high-voltage power and other essential services to the Domestic Terminal building. Brisbane Airport is investing in the replacement and upgrade of this vital infrastructure to improve reliability, accommodate future expansion, and meet increasing power demand.

Pensar's scope includes the conversion of existing plant areas into new low-voltage switchrooms and transformer rooms, installation of a new 11kV high-voltage switchboard, main switchboards and associated distribution boards, and new transformers. The works also extend to HVAC upgrades, fire detection and suppression systems, hydraulic modifications, structural alterations, and integration of communications, SCADA and central services systems. What makes this project particularly complex is the environment we're working in. Brisbane Airport doesn't stop for construction. Every stage, from cutovers to commissioning, are being carefully sequenced to keep operations running uninterrupted, with one transformer always remaining in service and temporary generation support planned during high-voltage transitions.

Projects like this reflect Pensar's ability to deliver complex, high-voltage infrastructure within live operational environments, where meticulous planning and staged commissioning are essential in keeping critical services running throughout.

It was inspiring to see some of our team pounding the pavement in the Bridge to Brisbane last weekend. Whether it was a first attempt or a well-worn tradition, everyone who laced up and crossed that start line showed the kind of determination we're proud to see in our team. A special mention to Tom Firth, who finished in the top 1% of all participants.

Events like this are a reminder that the culture we build together isn't confined to the workplace. It's also in the way our people show up for each other, take on a challenge, and push themselves that little bit further. Well done to all involved!

We are proud of the ongoing work we deliver for Toowoomba Regional Council. Across the region, our team has built a strong track record of delivering complex water and wastewater infrastructure in Clifton, Wetalla, Cecil Plains and Toowoomba. That relationship continues, with Pensar recently securing the Clifton STP Tertiary Treatment Upgrade, a design and construction project that builds on our successful delivery of the Clifton STP upgrade three years ago.

The scope includes the design and construction installation of a dissolved air flotation (DAF) system, acid and coagulant dosing and a full plant control systems upgrade. Each of these elements are designed to work together as a largely automated system featuring remote monitoring and fault alarming capabilities.

Projects like these reflect our ability to deliver complex infrastructure upgrades while keeping existing assets fully operational, minimising disruption for our clients and their communities throughout construction. It's exciting to see so many of Pensar's delivery capabilities come together across these projects, early contractor involvement, process, mechanical and electrical infrastructure, and specialist structures - reflecting the breadth of what our team delivers for our clients.

We were proud to again celebrate our annual Anniversary Lunch, bringing together 69 of our people who've been with Pensar for five years or more, joining us from across states for an afternoon of catching up, celebrating and reflecting on another year of impressive achievements.

This year was special with three more of our team reaching the 20-year milestone Tim Down, Troy Elder and Trent Dwyer and four more joining the 10-year club Kris Saunders, Laura Arias, Nick Stilgoe and Luke Sullivan. Each one with a story of their experiences, challenges tackled together and a career shaped by the people around them.

The fact that this event keeps growing year on year is a good problem to have. It's a sign of something we never take for granted. When we talk about what makes Pensar, we're talking about our people. The ones who commit, show up and support each other, who make the hard days lighter and contribute to the wins worth celebrating. Thank you to everyone who continues to give so much of themselves, year after year, to make Pensar what it is.

There are parts of project delivery that don't often make it into our updates yet are interesting and unexpected. Recently at on one of our Southeast Queensland sites, the team found an alternative use for material that would otherwise have been written off with several large timber sections recovered from the river as part of the project scope.

Rather than let it go to waste, the timber has found a second life. Divers were mobilised, along with lifting equipment, to bring the sections safely out of the river. The timber has since been donated to Darling Downs Zoo, with the hollow sections destined for an upcoming animal enclosure and the root ball possibly headed for a new home with the meerkats. The remaining pieces will be repurposed as decorative features across various exhibits at the zoo.

It's an inspiring reminder that you never quite know what a project might bring and sometimes a rewarding moment sits outside the original scope. Shoutout to Horizons Civil Solutions, who generously gave their time and equipment to assist in relocating the timber safely.

How do we attract and build the workforce Australia's water sector will need for the decades ahead? That question sat at the centre of last week's Careers in Water Planning Day, hosted at the Australian Water Association's Sydney offices, a room that brought together water authorities, government, councils, universities and industry leaders, all working toward the same goal; a sector with the people it needs to thrive, now and long into the future. As a Founding Partner of AWA's Careers in Water program, Pensar was proud to have a seat at that table. Jane Death joined the conversation on industry attraction, advocacy, and the initiatives that will keep this program, and the pipeline it builds, sustainable for years to come.

It's a conversation Pensar feels strongly about. As a contractor delivering critical water infrastructure, we see first-hand that the people who design, build and deliver these projects shape the sector's future as much as those who operate it. Being part of Careers in Water gives us the chance to contribute beyond the projects we deliver, and to help strengthen the talent pipeline our entire industry depends on.

Our Guiding Principles Award recognises team members who exemplify the values at the heart of Pensar. We celebrate our team members who act with integrity, respect, and bring purpose and drive to everything they do through continuous improvement. The award shines a spotlight on individuals who go above and beyond in both their work and the way they show up for their team, delivery partners and clients.

This quarter, we are proud to recognise Mitch Cu***ng as our Q2 Guiding Principles Award winner. Mitch stepped up to take ownership of QA across reservoir coating projects for one of our water utility clients. He's shown real accountability and professionalism, tackling challenging subcontractor performance and quality issues head-on. What stands out is his willingness to push for the right actions and stay focused on the outcomes that matter, earning him genuine trust and recognition across the project team. It's a great example of what steady, consistent effort can create over time.

By embracing our Guiding Principles, we create something that goes beyond great work. Together, we build a stronger, better future for our people, our clients, and the communities we deliver in.
