Back in December — while most companies were decorating Christmas trees — our Senior Engineer decided it was the perfect time to build a small data centre.
Because apparently designing retaining walls and stormwater systems wasn’t challenging enough.
So yes… Nexus Engineering now has its own dedicated server.
Built on Proxmox hypervisor, powered by a Threadripper CPU on a TRX40 Aorus board (because “standard” CPUs are clearly for civilians).
Inside this very innocent-looking box:
• 5 VMs GPU-accelerated via Tesla P40 (KVM passthrough, of course)
• 2 VMs with direct GPU passthrough — RX6600XT and P4000
• 1 VM dedicated file server with cloud integration and all the necessary bells and whistles (no GPU required)
• Cooling capacity designed to survive a Queensland summer — and Kon’s overclocking curiosity
So what does this actually mean?
It means our drafting, rendering, modelling, remote access, and testing environments now run faster, smoother, and without anyone yelling, “Who’s using all the RAM?!”
It also confirms that our structural engineer is now officially:
• In-house IT department
• Systems architect
• Cable management philosopher
• Part-time data centre operator
Server built in December.
Announced in February… because commissioning comes before celebration.
Engineering the physical world wasn’t enough.
Now we engineer the digital one too.
