Radford College's new multi-function hall spans 2,000m² and hosts everything from NBL games to inter-school events, they needed something that could handle noise, impact, and still look the part.

We supplied our Soundsorb Wave ceiling system to deliver high-performance acoustics without sacrificing the hard-wearing finish a multi-use sports and events space demands, all on a rapid construction program with sustainability front of mind.

Did you know Durra Panel is naturally fire-resistant and self-extinguishing? 🔥

Because it’s made from reclaimed straw, many people assume it must be highly flammable, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Fire needs three key elements to survive:
✅Ignition
✅Fuel
✅Oxygen

Durra Panel’s straw core is densely compressed through our dry extrusion process, with no toxic binding agents. This means there’s virtually no air within the panel, removing a critical element fire needs to sustain itself. Once the flame source is removed, combustion stops and the panel self-extinguishes.

It’s also an effective thermal barrier, so much so that you can hold your hand on the reverse side of the panel during exposure to fire without feeling heat.

Here's what actually makes Durra Panel different, it does more with less.

Compressed natural straw, a kraft paper liner, heat and pressure. That's it. The straw bonds using its own lignin, meaning no toxic chemicals or synthetic binders needed.

The result is a panel that's fire-resistant, great for acoustics, and completely biodegradable. High performance doesn't have to come at a cost to your health or the planet. 🌿

The Monbulk Residence is a fully off-grid modular home in the Dandenong Ranges, designed by Joost Bakker and Frank Burridge to meet BAL 40 requirements using only natural materials.

Durra Panel was specified across the entire building envelope. The brief called for natural, VOC-free materials, full off-grid capability, and a zero-waste construction process, with every off-cut mulched on site and carbon stored within the building fabric.

Fire-resilient, off-grid, and designed from the start to be demounted and recovered rather than demolished.
