This post is for Chery Tiggo 4, Tiggo 7 and Omoda 5 owners who have Neoprene seat covers fitted.
We made a post about 6 months ago with concerns about the front seat covers a customer of ours purchased it from a local business located in QLD.
This week we have another chance to review this again from another customer with the same seat covers.
These are what we notice:
1) only one AIRBAG SAFE label on the driver seat
2) not precision fit as advertised
3) fitting instruction is incorrect given by the seller
4) and most importantly, when you fold the seat cover inside out, there is NO special treatment visually on the inner side of the driver seat cover for airbag deployment.
We found a video from their seat cover manufacturer "LingYue" posted on DaoYin, special airbag treatment or " breakable seams" must have a barcode label with date/time of manufacturing, sewing method for traceability purposes. But this barcode label is missing on the inner side of the driver side seat cover.
We repeat this from our post six months ago. For those who didn't know, Chery Tiggo 4, 5x or Tiggo Cross that are being sold overseas including China have either 4 or 6 airbags. But in some countries including Australia, an extra airbag is added to protect between the driver and the front passenger, called the front centre airbag. This extra airbag pops out from the driver seat in a serious side impact collision.
Serious implications if the front centre airbag is blocked in the event of an accident, so please speak to the seller and ask for a written confirmation from their manufacturer whether the driver seat cover is airbag safe for Australian sold Chery models.
We will post a link to the video from their manufacturer about airbag seams and barcode labels. (Video is in Chinese/Mandarin but basically talks about why there is a barcode label to the inner side of seat cover, traceability, etc.).
