Repeat Offender: Ra**st Convicted Again for Aggravated Indecent Assault

Brian Shereni, a 39-year-old inmate at Chikurubi Maximum Prison, has been convicted of aggravated indecent assault after sexually abusing his cellmate. This is not Shereni's first conviction, as he is currently serving a 20-year sentence for r**e and had previously been released on amnesty only to be arrested again for the same crime.

According to court records, Shereni took advantage of his cellmate's deep sleep and committed the assault on October 29 last year. The victim, aged 36, woke up to find Shereni abusing him and screamed for help, prompting other inmates to intervene. The incident was reported to the prison authorities, and a report was filed at ZRP Highlands.

During the victim impact assessment, the complainant testified that the incident had a profound physical and emotional impact on him. He urged the court to impose a custodial sentence of at least eight years on Shereni. Despite the trauma he experienced, the complainant stated that he has forgiven Shereni.

Shereni appeared before Harare regional magistrate Sandra Mupindu and was remanded for pre-sentence hearing and sentencing. The court's decision is pending.
