The feedback highlights the quality, performance and craftsmanship of the vessel, a strong endorsement of our expertise in custom GRP fishing vessel construction.

VESSEL REVIEW: Sachal Shipyard in South Africa recently handed over a new custom purse seiner to local customer Hesko Fishing.

'Creativity' was designed and built to satisfy a number of key requirements including being able to carry 320 tons of catch, maintaining a speed in excess of 10 knots when loaded, and having a draught shallow enough to be able to offload at certain sites that have draught restrictions.

Her daily duties will centre on efficient fishing operations, rapid catch handling, and quick port turnarounds to maximise the number of trips per week.

WE ARE HIRING – HEAD OF COMPOSITES DEPARTMENT

South Africa’s oldest shipyard (est. 1957) and specialist in high-quality custom & semi-custom GRP composite fishing vessels and workboats is looking for a driven, hands-on leader to head our Composites Department.
This senior role gives you full ownership of all composites processes, hand lamination, vacuum infusion, hull & superstructure construction, components and finishing. You will lead and develop the team, pioneer data capture and QC systems, drive efficiency and waste reduction, champion health & safety, contribute to production planning, and play a key role in optimising composite design and application.
We are looking for someone with strong marine GRP experience, proven leadership and training ability, an innovative mindset, and a genuine long-term commitment to growing the composites division and building world-class vessels.

This permanent role involves rigging, heavy lifts, vessel demoulding and movement, mechanical fitting and outfitting, plus maintaining diesel engines and yard machinery/vehicles. It’s varied, hands-on work building tough custom GRP fishing vessels and workboats in a well-established family shipyard.

An extraordinary sight on the road.

Our latest 86ft Purse Seiner has officially begun her journey from our shipyard to the launch facility on the 2nd of February, a transport that turned heads and demonstrated the sheer scale of this build.

At Sachal Shipyard, we specialize in high-performance composite fishing vessels built for durability, efficiency, and commercial reliability. This 86ft platform represents months of precision engineering, advanced composites, and disciplined project ex*****on.

Transporting a vessel of this magnitude is no small feat, and it’s a powerful reminder of what South African shipbuilding is capable of delivering.
