Did you know that our Balteau X-ray equipment isn't always just for the NDT market?
Have you heard about Seed Irradiation?
The application consists of treating a plant seed or more specifically its protoplast with irradiation in order to destroy the chromosomes and artificially mix the genes already existing in genome. In a laboratory, it takes about 10 years to obtain a new plant after the spotting of the genes, the growth of the right “parents” and the selection of the right “children”. Thanks to the irradiation technique,
this period of time is significantly reduced.
Another application is to make an image of the inside structure of a seed or a bulb without cutting it. This way it is possible to
make sure about its quality and still use the same which is not possible if damaged.

This is possible with the Balteau AIS228 with XSD160.
