That crusty blue green powder on your battery terminals isn’t harmless. ⚠️

Battery terminal corrosion can interfere with the electrical connection, making it harder for your vehicle to start and potentially affecting battery performance.

A quick inspection can help you catch the problem before you’re stuck with a car that won’t start.

🔧 Check your terminals. Keep the connection clean. Avoid the unnecessary headache.

Know someone whose battery terminals look like this? Send them this post.

Not every Check Engine light means you need an expensive replacement.

In this case, the customer was expecting a fuel pump replacement after seeing a “System Too Lean” fault code.

But the real problem was a contaminated MAF sensor.

After the sensor was cleaned, the fuel trim errors cleared and the vehicle was back to running properly.

The lesson? Diagnose the problem before replacing the part.

Sometimes the right fix is much simpler, and much cheaper.

Torque isn't just a number on a workshop manual.

It's the difference between the correct clamping force and a component that can work loose, distort or fail under heat and load.

Whether you're fitting a cylinder head, valve cover or other critical engine component, tightening by feel isn't enough.

🔧 Use the manufacturer's torque specification. Every time.

That clicking sound when you turn a tight corner at low speed?

That’s your CV joint telling you it’s running out of time.

CV joints transfer power from your transmission to your wheels while allowing your suspension to move up and down.

When the protective rubber boot cracks, grease escapes and road dirt and water can contaminate the joint, accelerating wear on the hardened steel bearings.

Catching a split boot early can save you from replacing the entire driveshaft assembly.

Know someone whose car is making that clicking noise? Share this with them.

Tap water might look harmless. Your cooling system knows better.

The minerals in ordinary tap water can contribute to scale and corrosion inside your cooling system, including the water pump, radiator and engine components.

Over time, that corrosion can affect cooling performance and contribute to overheating.

Your cooling system isn't just about keeping the temperature down. It's also about protecting the engine.

🔧 **Use the correct coolant and protect your cooling system from the inside out.**

If your wipers do this, don't wait for the rain. 🌧️

If your wipers are leaving streaks, smears or patches of water behind, your visibility can drop quickly when the rain gets heavy.

And in Durban weather, you don't want to discover that when you're already on the road.

A good set of wiper blades helps keep your windscreen clear, your visibility sharp and your drive safer.

🔧 Small part. Big difference when the weather turns.

Know someone whose wipers are past their prime? Send them this.

" Do I really need to replace both shock absorbers if only one is leaking?”

We get asked this at our Durban counter every day.

The short answer: Yes.

Shocks and struts wear gradually over thousands of kilometres. Replacing only one side can create uneven damping, which may affect:

Cornering stability
Braking performance
Tyre wear

Replacing suspension components as matched pairs helps keep your vehicle balanced and stable... especially on uneven roads.

Got a question about your car, suspension or any other motor part?

Drop it in the comments. Our counter experts will help. 🔧

Not all oil filters are built the same.

Myth: Cheap filters save you money.
Fact: Poor filtration can allow metal particles and contaminants to circulate through your engine, contributing to bearing wear over time.

That cheaper filter might save you a few rands today, but what could it cost you later?

When choosing an oil filter, look for quality construction, effective filtration and the right specifications for your vehicle.

Don’t buy blind. Buy right. Drive long.

📍 Visit Dave’s Motor Spares for expert advice and quality replacement parts.

Guesswork has no place in your braking system.

When your brake pedal pulses or your brakes squeal under light pressure, it’s easy to assume the pads are simply worn. But fitting fresh pads to a warped or excessively thin brake rotor can lead to uneven wear, reduced stopping power and premature failure.

Measure first. Replace what actually needs replacing.

At Dave’s Motor Spares, we’ll help you accurately diagnose the wear before you buy a single part.

Most engine failures don’t happen all at once they announce themselves in micro cracks.

That squealing sound under the bonnet or the tiny fraying you can see on your serpentine belt? Don’t ignore it.

A snapped belt can take out your alternator, power steering and water pump all at once, turning a simple maintenance job into an expensive roadside emergency.

Regular belt inspections can keep you ahead of the problem. At Dave’s Motor Spares, our counter team can inspect your old belt or help you find the exact OEM-spec replacement for your vehicle.

🔧 Check it before it snaps!
