Why God chose Moses
God chose and created Moses as a display cabinet for who He is. It is the weakness of Moses that made him a perfect tree to display the fire that burns without a source. For God is indeed the YHWH. He is the I AM who exists. He is the self sufficient God who needs nothing and no one to exist. He exists and therfore He is the I AM.
The best vehicle to introduce God was a man who was alien to the world around him. It is therefore not his knowledge of Egyptology, his heritage nor his physical prowess that made Moses the perfect vehicle. It is the lack of any attributable characters, which can take the spotlight away from God, that made him the perfect choice. God was introducing himself for the first time in 430 years and no one could be centre stage but God. Moses was a nobody, whose task was to introduce Somebody.
It was not his scholastic attributes that made him perfect for his calling. His education played no discernable role in his mission. It is Aaron who spoke before the Pharaoh and not the educated Moses. God spoke to Moses and he passed the.message to Aaron whondid all the work. If indeed Moses was educated, it was of no relevance and inconsequential to his calling. God will not share His glory, and that includes Moses too. He makes it abundantly clear that he is the one that delivered the children of Israel. This is the crust of the matter. God does not want us to ever forget what he did and the fact He alone did it.
It is for this reason that he chose a man with no heritage. Moses was too Hebrew to be Egyptian and too Egyptian to be a Hebrew. He lacks advantage by virtue of his heritage. Later on he is rejected by his people and pursued by the Pharaoh. He finally settles in a land where he is a stranger. Not only is he a stranger, but he is a stranger in a strange land. At first glance the scripture appears like tautology until you understand that Moses is not defined by heritage. He has no heritage or at least none that can be attributed to his calling.
The 40 years in Midian also took away his physical strength. The strength he displayed when he killed an Egyptian and when he defended Jethro daughters was no more. At 80 years he was past his prime to rely on his strength for his mission.
The man was:
Old
Could not talk.despitr God assuring him that he has cured his ailment - therefore could not use whatever education he had. He relied on a sign to convince the Pharaoh he was from God. He did rely on his education.
No heritage - He needed a sign to convince the Hebrews he was sent by God.
All these made him a perfect vessel for the work the Almighty had called him for. God's power is made perfect in our weakness. It is understandable to search for exceptional character traits that accounts for an individual's greatness. We feel beguiled when greatness has no attributable characters. This is the reason why most people lose respect for their heroes when they discover that they are just ordinary people and are sometimes shrouded by weakness.
The hero of exodus is God. In Moses God has once more confounded the wise. He has delivered greatness armed with a man who was essentially nothing. Please do not get me wrong, Moses had strong attributes that could explain God's attraction to him but none of those where traits that directly contributed to his mission. He was just man, meek and loved his people. These attributes would prove more essential in the desert where he became an intercessor for the people.
Moses was the vessel God used to deliver His people but he was not the deliverer. I believe God made him use the rod to further emphasis that it was the hand of God in action and not the hand of Moses. This is in contrast with Jesus Christ who uses His hands and His own mouth to deliver - because Jesus is God.
We must be weary of teachings that cheap away on God's greatness. When God is not the Almighty he becomes one of ordinary gods. His power in our lives is displayed when we understand him for who He is - for He is the I AM.
🙏🏾 AMEN 🙏🏾
