NEW FROM MOTSUMI SURGICAL

Our new Electrocautery and Vessel Sealing Units have arrived in South Africa!

Designed for both veterinary specialists and general practitioners, the unit combines monopolar electrocautery and bipolar functionality with vessel-sealing technology, making it a versatile addition to the surgical theatre.

The vessel-sealing device seals and divides vessels in one step, providing effective haemostasis and reducing bleeding for better visibility of the surgical field. By sealing and cutting with one device, it can help improve surgical efficiency and give the surgeon greater control during procedures.

Ideal for:

• Ovariectomies and spays
• Castrations
• Splenectomies
• Tumour resections and lumpectomies
• Limb amputations
• Other soft-tissue procedures

The handpieces are autoclavable, making the unit practical and cost-effective for regular use. And vessel-sealing technology isn’t only for specialist practices; our unit is priced with the general veterinary practitioner in mind too.

We also offer a standalone monopolar electrocautery and bipolar unit for practices that don’t require vessel sealing.

🎥 Watch the video to see the vessel-sealing device in action during an ovariectomy, together with Motsumi Surgical drapes.

Bringing Advanced Fusion Implants Technology to South Africa

The patient recently underwent a complex spinal stabilisation procedure in Cape Town using a patient-specific, custom 3D-printed surgical guide and the Fusion Implants spinal fixation system.

Following a CT scan, a bespoke 3D-printed guide was designed specifically for the patient's unique spinal anatomy, allowing surgeons to accurately place implants in the strongest available bone while reducing the need for more invasive surgical techniques.

The surgery was performed by Dr Ross Elliott of Rover Vet, together with the surgical team at Tygerberg Animal Hospital, Bellville. Dr Christiaan Triegaardt of Cape Specialist Surgical Vet was instrumental in identifying the opportunity to utilise this innovative approach and coordinating the case.

Motsumi Surgical was proud to assist in bringing the Fusion Implants system into South Africa and coordinating the manufacture of the custom 3D-printed surgical guide used during the procedure.

This case marks the first use of a Fusion Implants spinal stabilisation system in a dog in South Africa, highlighting the exciting possibilities that advanced imaging, 3D printing, and precision surgery offer veterinary patients.

We wish the patient a smooth recovery and look forward to following his progress.
