This week on the floor we did something worth talking about.
We set up a custom tombstone on our 4th axis and loaded 3 components in a single setup.
The material is VRN 400, sourced from Macsteel. It arrives from the supplier already sitting at 40+ HRC, around 400 Brinell hardness. It is built to resist wear, impact and abrasion. You find it on earthmoving equipment, mining chutes and heavy industrial wear plates. It is designed to outlast everything around it.
Now here is one number from just the roughing pass alone.
One single roughing tool covered 305.7 metres of feed distance through that material. That is roughly three and a half rugby fields end to end, carved through hardened wear steel, by one tool, in one operation.
And that is the roughing pass only. The full program numbers are still to come.
Next week we drop the complete picture. Feeds, speeds, every tool, every operation.

Every part that leaves RD CNC has been measured twice.
First at the machine by the machinist -- in-process, before it ever comes off the fixture. Then independently by our QC inspector on the Trimos V7-400, a Swiss precision instrument measuring down to 0.0001mm.
In plain language: that is finer than a fraction of a human hair.

Every result is documented. Pass, Marginal or Fail. Anything that fails gets a formal non-conformance raised in JobBoss 17.3 -- investigated, resolved, recorded permanently.
When your part arrives from us, it has been verified, signed off and documented. No surprises. No excuses.

Most machine shops check your part at the end. We check it while it is still on the machine. What you see in this photo is a precision vice clamped directly to our 4th axis rotary unit. The Haimer 3D sensor verifies dimensions at each rotary position before the machine moves to the next face.

In plain language: the part does not move, does not get re-clamped, and gets checked at every stage -- all in a single operation.

For our clients that means complex multi-face components machined faster, more accurately and with less opportunity for error. Every job then gets a final independent inspection on our Trimos V7-400 before anything ships.

That is the RD CNC standard.

The best engineering solutions don't just solve the immediate problem - they redesign the problem itself.

We recently completed a custom press tool set for a multinational automotive client. The original design had a fundamental cost problem: every time the high-wear working surfaces degraded, the entire tool had to be remade.

We redesigned the concept.

Our solution delivers a fully machined press tool where the high-wear inserts are designed to be removed and replaced independently, without touching the rest of the tool structure. Same precision. Fraction of the replacement cost. Significantly less downtime.

That's the difference between a supplier and an engineering partner.

Here's what the manufacturing demanded:

Material: K340 tool steel - triple hardened and tempered to 60–62 HRC, combining edge retention with impact toughness at extreme hardness.

Process sequence:
β†’ Rough machine to stock
β†’ Harden & Temper Γ—3 to 60–62 HRC
β†’ Final Grind (flatness and datum reference)
β†’ Final hard machining of all critical features

Critical features held:
* Profile: 47.60 +0.05/+0.02mm
* Precision bore: Ø6.00 H7 Γ— 20mm depth
* Overall length: 290mm
* Tolerances to Β±0.02mm on critical features

Verified on our Trimos V7-400 height gauge before release.
