A Typical Day at T.D.H. ENGINEERING 🔧
5:45am - The roller door goes up at 5 Johnson Road, Neave Industrial.
Compressor coughs. Kettle on. Smell of cutting oil in the air.
First job on the Colchester is a farmer’s shaft from Addo — scored, worn, 20 years of hard work on it. He needs it today. Planting season doesn’t wait.
By 8:30am the shop is alive. Chips flying, coolant humming, 081 529 6880 not stopping. Bushes to make, threads to re-cut, machines to test.
Midday we take a finish cut — 0.02mm to go. No rush. We don’t do “close enough.” Micrometer clicks. Perfect.
3pm is testing time. Every job, every machine we sell, makes chips before it leaves our floor. That’s why we say Viewing & Testing welcome — we are engineers, not box movers.
5:30pm we sweep up brass, steel and aluminium, oil the beds, and lock up.
And someone always stops on their way home holding something broken and says:
“Can you make this?”
We smile.
