The N2 in-bound into Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha had to be briefly closed near the Salt Pans on Saturday morning to allow for the transhipment of a 29-ton container from a broken-down trailer to a new one. Time was of the essence as scores of rugby fans were making their way into the city at the time for the Springboks vs Barbarians game that afternoon. We procured a mobile crane from Concord Cranes and along with two of our NF Hire riggers, and a team from I-TAC Towing and Recovery, had the road open again in double-quick time. 😊

A day in the life of Northfield Engineering’s Fabrication workshop… Bollards complete and ready for shipping, walkways complete, busy with weigh bridge no 2, feeders and boom scrapers. Our Fabrication department has both a Stainless Steel and a Mild Steel section and provides a critical service to Northfield Engineering’s Municipal, Agri and Industry divisions. We also service the Pharmaceutical Industry and fabricate pipe runs in all sizes from 10 mm to 2000 mm Nominal Bore. 😊

Our 800-ton hydraulic gantry system is the largest of its kind in the Eastern Cape and is operated through our sister company NF Hire and Contracting (Pty) Ltd. This transformer weighed in at a solid 209-tons and needed to be lifted onto an abnormal-load transporter in the Coega IDZ. The gantry system can be used in either a two-post or a four-post configuration. In this instance, the four-post set-up ensured that the transformer was safely and efficiently lifted into position.

Fassi Friday it is then 😊 .... This 8.2-ton piece of machinery needed to be off-loaded in a hurry. It was easy pickings for our UD Quester 440 Twin Steer BA the Badger and its FASSI F1150 knuckle boom crane. Its an exceptionally powerful crane which boasts a reach of 19.7 m at which range it can still lift 4 tons.

Our 800-ton hydraulic gantry system is perfectly suited to rigging heavy industrial equipment into position on the factory floor.
It is powered by two diesel engines and can be run in either a 4-post or 2-post configuration.
This 40-ton mechanical press was rigged safely into position using our gantry in its 2-post configuration.

Northfield Engineering can confirm that two of our employees passed away in a tragic accident on Wednesday afternoon.
Due to the fact that the police investigation is on-going and out of respect for the two families we will issue a formal statement once all the facts have been ascertained.
At this stage our immediate priorities are the wellbeing of the families of our deceased colleagues.
We ask that any insensitive information, photos or videos that are being circulated be removed from circulation out of respect for the families.
