Pothole Project: Step 3 ALTERNATIVE

If you want the best possible compaction for your pothole project, a walk-behind roller is the ideal option.

Diesel powered with a vibratory function, these machines are more efficient at compacting larger areas and material compared to plate compactors or rammers.

To ensure the best possible finish to your pothole repair, this would be the ideal machine.

Pothole Project: Step 3 - Compaction

The final step to your pothole repair.

There are a couple ways to compact (including the hand-stampers used by every politician leading up to November elections).
The practical option we recommend is a plate compactor.

Here, Morné and Ayanda are using a standard, petrol driven 130kg plate compactor to compact the Gatvol PE mix correctly.

A lighter weight, low frequency plate compactor is also a good option for tar type applications, especially if there is any slope involved.

Better compaction will lead to a better, longer lasting pothole repair.

After cleaning out the recently cut squares around the pothole with a pick and a broom, Ayanda is filling the pothole with Gatvol PE pothole mix!

Don't be shy with the amount you use, especially if you are using heavier equipment to compact (more to follow).

Pothole Project: Step 1

Our first step was to cut a clean square/ rectangle around the pothole for a neater finished product at the end.

These pothole were still very small and in the beginning stages, but we thought we would jump on them early.

Ayanda, our pothole project manager is using a petrol driven concrete cutter/ floor saw with an Asphalt blade to make the cut..

Gatvol PE
