PROJECT UPDATE: Intercare Vergelegen Plein, Somerset West

The Intercare Vergelegen Plein project is progressing well and is 60% complete. The development includes a modern acute rehabilitation unit designed to provide specialised healthcare and recovery services to the surrounding community. EDS acted as the Principal Agent and Project Manager on the project, overseeing the successful coordination and ex*****on of the development.

Construction activities are ongoing, with project completion scheduled for the end of July 2026. Once complete, the facility will enhance healthcare services within the region, providing patients with access to high-quality rehabilitation and medical care.

Key project highlights include:
• 34-bed acute rehabilitation healthcare facility
• Purpose-designed medical and rehabilitation spaces
• Development aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving accessibility within the Helderberg region
• Upon completion, the Intercare Fit-Outs team will take over

PROJECT REVIEW: Beechgate 01 Hibiscus Road Warehouse

EDS Engineers successfully delivered the Beechgate 01 Hibiscus Road Warehouse, a ±15 000 m² distribution centre located within Southgate Business Park in Umbogintwini, Amanzimtoti.

Appointed as Project Managers, Principal Agents, as well as Civil and Structural Engineers, the team provided integrated professional services across all phases of the development.

Our involvement included:
• Full project management and principal agent responsibilities
• Civil engineering design and construction monitoring
• Structural engineering design for the warehouse facility
• Coordination of bulk earthworks and infrastructure implementation.

Construction commenced with bulk earthworks in December 2024, with the project reaching completion in August 2025.
We value the opportunity to have partnered with the Newlyn Group and the professional team in delivering this high-quality logistics facility, contributing to the growth of industrial infrastructure within the region.

NEW PROJECT: Sacks Circle Industrial, Cape Town

After several months of planning and preparation, construction has officially commenced on a new 13,600m2 warehouse development in Sacks Circle Industrial, Bellville, Cape Town.

With demolition works and bulk earthworks successfully completed, the project has progressed to an exciting new phase where structural columns are beginning to rise, alongside the ongoing installation of bulk civil services.

We look forward to seeing this development take shape as a landmark industrial facility.

PROJECT UPDATE: Newinbosch Square, Stellenbosch

Newinbosch Square is in the final stages of construction, with all major structural and finishing work nearing completion. EDS acted as the consulting structural engineers on the project, supporting its successful delivery. Final inspections, tenant fit-outs, and commissioning are currently underway to ensure the facility is fully operational.

The official opening of the centre is planned for April 2026, marking a significant milestone for the development and the surrounding community.

PROJECT UPDATE: De Zandt Development, Western Cape

Progress continues at the De Zandt Development, where EDS Engineers has successfully transformed an existing building into new modern office space. These works form part of the broader Birdsong Estate development in Sandbaai in the Western Cape, comprising 151 residential homes and 6 apartment units.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
We fulfilled the role of both Project Manager and Principal Agent on this development, ensuring effective coordination and delivery across all project phases.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
Our team is currently advancing the refurbishment of existing residential units, including detailed structural assessments and the design of new structural elements.

PROJECT UPDATE: Emeris Sandton completion

EDS Engineers was part of the newly developed R420 million Emeris Sandton landmark. A 47 000 m² mega campus development launched in 2026 by ADvTECH’s private higher education brand, Emeris.

Our team provided Civil, Traffic and Structural Engineering expertise on this impressive project.

CIVIL ENGINEERING
Bulk earthworks design, together with the design and construction monitoring of internal paved driveways, parking areas, sewer infrastructure and stormwater management infrastructure, including an attenuation pond.

TRAFFIC ENGINEERING
Upgrade of the Grayston Drive and Webber Road intersection.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
Design for advanced learning spaces, including a double-storey library and information centre, a student experience hub, innovation labs, podcast studios, and a custom indoor sports centre capable of hosting international events.

Since 2020, Marinus de Jager has played a key role in establishing and building the Project Management division at EDS. Marinus is as a registered Professional Construction Project manager (Pr.CPM) with the SACPCMP, certified Project Management Professional (PMP®) with the Project Management Institute (PMI), and registered Professional Civil Engineer with ECSA.

Over the years, the Project Management team has contributed to exciting projects including Data Centre developments, Retail and shopping developments, Warehouse developments, Office renovations, Eskom sub-station development, Container shipping and loading yards, Residential developments, Medical facilities, Motor showrooms, Filling Stations, as well as Township establishments and civil infrastructure developments.

With leadership from Marinus, the scope of Project Management services provided by EDS includes for project management services, principal agent services, programme management, contract management, construction monitoring, construction management, as well as project due diligence and feasibility studies.
