Want better maize meal? Start before the mill. 🌽💧

In this short video, we explain why conditioning matters as much in a community or service mill as it does in a big commercial plant. Add a little water, mix it through, and give the maize at least five minutes to absorb it. The bran turns elastic, so your roller mill removes it more easily, and you get better quality meal.

Small batches or buckets? You can do it by hand. Working with 20-litre buckets or 50 kg bags? The Roff 70-litre horizontal batch mixer makes it much easier.

From the rugby field to the mill. 🏉🌾

Chris Rossouw was part of the Springbok squad that won the 1995 Rugby World Cup, and he comes from a farming family with a Farmer of the Year title to its name. When he moved into maize milling, he knew very little about it. What he did know was who he wanted beside him, and he chose Roff.

Today Rossgro Milling runs on a Roff R-70, with a class-leading extraction rate and a mill that’s up and running in about 25 minutes.

Reliable water, even a small amount, can change what a farm is able to do.

That is the heart of a TED talk by Josephine Waweru, a farmer in rural Kenya. She started with one cow and an acre of maize, carrying water up a steep path six times a day. Hiring diesel pumps for her vegetables meant spending more than she earned. Then a solar-powered pump arrived, paid off slowly over time, and the farm began to pay her instead. She now grows coffee, vegetables and herbal teas, runs seven fish ponds and trains young farmers on her land.

The pattern is one we see across the mills we work with. Effort alone doesn't build a business. Reliability does: power you can count on, spares on the shelf, a service before the busy season. Once those are in place, each new product has something solid to stand on.
