Know where your oxygen come from and that it meets the required purity standards.
It is important that the medical oxygen you use meets the minimum required purity and is produced by a licensed manufacturer.
SAHPRA (South African Health Products Regulatory Authority), governs medical gases as registered medicines under the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965.
The specification itself follows the South African Pharmacopoeia, which is closely aligned with the British/European Pharmacopoeia standard for medical oxygen:
• Purity: ≥99.5% O₂ (v/v) minimum
• Carbon dioxide: ≤300 ppm (v/v)
• Carbon monoxide: ≤5 ppm (v/v)
• Water content: ≤67 ppm (v/v)
Producers of medical oxygen in SA (Afrox is the main one as is Air Liquide) must hold a SAHPRA manufacturing/distribution license.
All our oxygen is of medical grade and sourced from Air Liquide with batch numbers and purity analysis records recorded.
We do not stock or fill any other form of oxygen or gas on our oxygen handling equipment.
