Global Supplies is owned and managed by JJ van Altena. JJ spent seven years in the Kruger National Park (KNP) where he was involved with game capture, Elephant contraception research and implementation. During this time he also gained extensive experience in all aspects of various wildlife relocation projects - from Ground Hornbill to Elephant. His knowledge base extends to the diverse field of wildlife management. JJ assisted in the aerial tracking of various collared animals within the KNP as part of on-going research projects. After leaving the Park , JJ continued with relocation efforts โ€“ including relocating the majority of Elephant that now occur on Private Reserves. For the past 16 years JJ has been building relationships with various role players in the local as well as international conservation community. Global Supplies was the result of several organizations requesting his expert advice on applications within the wildlife arena. In 2010 , Jaco Mattheus joined the company. He has proven to be an invaluable asset with his wealth of knowledge and experience in the wildlife industry. Jaco started his career with a three year stint in Kruger National Park. This gave him the opportunity to get involved with all the varied aspects of wildlife management and research that was conducted in the park. After this, Jaco got involved in the Private Game Capture industry, where he gained vast experience in the capture of wildlife using various capture methods over a large spectrum of species , including the capture and relocation of Roan antelope from Botswana to South Africa , and several hundred White Rhino. In 2003, an opportunity presented itself to Jaco to take up reigns as Wildlife Manager on a large Private Game Reserve in Natal ( Phinda PGR ) . During his seven years as Warden of this Reserve, Jaco obtained exposure to the various telemetry options that are available to the industry, due to the numerous research projects undertaken in the Reserve. He gained invaluable insight into what it takes to manage a Reserve that is at the forefront of private conservation efforts. He was also asked to give input into the formulation of an Elephant management plan by the provincial conservation authority โ€“ the only private individual asked to assist. We take great pride in the services that we offer and endeavor throughout to ensure our clients satisfaction. There is no project that doesnโ€™t get tackled with the passion and experience that we have amassed and we guarantee the utmost levels of service and success at all times.

Unravelling the Mysteries of European Roller Migration

Hera heads towards Pakistan! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฐ
After spending close to a month in Somalia ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ด, Hera has flown across the Gulf of Aden, through Oman and across the Gulf of Oman to almost reach Pakistan!
In just two days, Hera has flown more than 2500 km, much of that across an ocean ๐ŸŒŠ. How fantastic is that!

Royal Wasi hasn't updated since 30 April 2024, after reaching the Horn of Africa - we're hoping it's not bad news, but the longer we don't receive an update, the more likely it is that either the tag has failed or Royal Wasi hasn't made it. We remain hopeful.

We are writing to you to let you know a new version of the firmware is available for your Chorus; Version 2.4.17. This is an important update and you should apply this to all your recorders as soon as possible.

The new firmware update includes the following new fixes and features over previous versions:
Scheduler - Fixed an issue with scheduler tasks that use suntimes not starting or stopping when expected.
SD Cards - Cards that can be read perfectly well but cannot be written to (due to a problem with the card) will now be correctly shown as a "Bad SD Card" on the Dashboard.
SD Cards - Added higher tolerance for lower quality cards during startup.
General - Greatly improved detector reponse to errors during deployment.
Temperature - Better quality and higher accuracy readings from the temperature sensor.
Firmware is the software that runs on your device and Titley Scientific is continually improving this software to add features and address performance issues. It is vital that you install new updates as soon as they become available to ensure your device runs smoothly. Follow the instructions below to update the firmware on your Chorus.

How to apply the firmware update

The Chorus firmware is updated using an SD card with the update copied onto it.
Step 1
Download the Chorus update file here. Copy it to the root directory (i.e. not in any folder) on an SD card. Make sure the file is named chorus.adx. You can use the same SD card to update multiple recorders.
Step 2
Insert the SD card and fresh batteries into your device and then turn it on.
An on-screen message will appear aftera few moments: Update available. Select โœ“ (left soft key) to start the update.
Do not remove the batteries or power off the recorder while the update is being installed. The Recording Mode LEDs will cycle to indicate the update is occurring and the unit will restart upon completion.

If this message does not appear then the update file wasnโ€™t copied onto the card correctly or the firmware is already up to date. You can check the installed firmware version in the Info screen on your Chorus.

Please note the device will not update firmware if a low battery warning is displayed.
Step 3
You can now delete the update file from the SD card or use the card again to update several devices.

If you encounter any difficulties with this process please donโ€™t hesitate to contact your local Titley Scientific distributor for assistance.
