A nest of GoldKachas deep in the South American jungle. These units were used to recover gold from alluvial sands, without mercury, and proved environmentally safe. This was back in our early days with the Mk2 GoldKacha, very efficient, and APT has continued development through to the Mk4 GoldKacha, a truly magnificent alluvial gold wash plant and concentrator in one small package.

An APT TriTank TT40 installed in Southern Africa.

The TriTank was designed by APT for gold recovery via CIL/CIP. The unit incorporates the traditional 6 cyanidation tanks into one single tank, partitioned into 6 individual sectors. The result? Less steel required for manufacture (and thus lower capital cost), smaller footprint, easier materials transfer between sectors, and most import, enhanced mixing characteristics for faster and more effective dissolution and adsorption, and thus higher recovery. An engineering marvel that has truly revolutionised cyanidation.

Looking back on this truly spectacular plant for the Ariab project. The project began with metallurgical testing by APT to find an optimal treatment route for this difficult ore. In conjunction with Ariab’s own metallurgists, a flowsheet was formulated to overcome the challenges, after which APT designed and built a plant to achieve the desired result. APT also installed the plant and commissioned it. The process guarantee for the plant was a high bar of 93% gold recovery, and that was not only achieved, but exceeded. The salient details were a throughput of 35tph with a CIL residence time of 24 hr at a grind of P80 75 microns. Pressurised elution and carbon regeneration were included in the package, along with a cyanide destruct module. The installation was a success because it incorporated leading edge technology at every step, especially the extremely efficient mixing resulting from APT’s proprietary and patented TriTank system.
