Elegant Series LED Profiles — Illuminate Your Balustrade System ✨

Integrated LED lighting is a stylish, functional and cost-effective addition to any indoor or outdoor balustrade installation. It enhances the visual appeal of the balustrade, illuminates dark areas for safety and extends the use of the space — all with the added benefits of LED technology: energy efficient, long-lasting, cool to the touch and low maintenance.

The Elegant Series makes it easy to incorporate with two dedicated profile solutions:

💡 C50-8705 LED Cover Profile

An alternative cover profile for the C50 balustrade system, constructed of anodised aluminium with a full-length LED channel enclosed with an opal polycarbonate cover. It can be used on one or both sides of the balustrade. Available in 5.8-metre lengths, it clips easily onto the inside and outside of the C50 base shoes.

💡 PR-9183 Round LED Handrail Profile

A round anodised aluminium handrail with LED channels on either side enclosed with opal polycarbonate covers. It is suitable for 12 / 15mm toughened or 6+6 / 8+8mm laminated safety glass. Available in 5.8-metre lengths with connectors, end caps and wall flanges for different installation configurations.

Use one or both profiles to create the perfect lighting solution — illumination at the base, from above, or combining both for maximum effect.

Please note: LED lighting strips are sourced by the client.

Invisible but Indispensable — The Role of Desiccant in an Insulating Glass Unit

An insulating glass unit is designed to be hermetically sealed — but this does not mean the cavity is completely free of moisture.

Some moisture may be unavoidably trapped in the unit during manufacture, and additional moisture will diffuse through the edge seal during the lifespan of the unit. If not controlled, it will eventually condense on the interior glass surfaces, compromising visibility and the performance of the unit — and ultimately resulting in premature failure.

This is where desiccant comes in. Thousands of beads of desiccant are housed inside the spacer bar, performing the critical function of adsorbing moisture from the cavity throughout the service life of the unit.

FG Trading supplies SIVLITE™, a high-performance 3A molecular sieve designed specifically for insulating glass units — because not all desiccants are equal, and quality matters. Pore size is critical — a 3A desiccant selectively adsorbs water molecules while limiting the adsorption of other gases present in the unit cavity.

SIVLITE™ is approved by a leading independent test laboratory and complies with both European and American standards — offering good Delta-T performance, extremely low dust content, very low initial moisture level, high adsorption capacity and no corrosive substances. It is the most cost-effective solution for long-lasting fog prevention in any climate — ensuring unobstructed views, preventing fogging that would otherwise hinder insulation performance, and protecting units from premature failure due to moisture buildup.

Available in 0.5–0.9 mm and 1.0–1.5 mm bead sizes, SIVLITE™ is suitable for both manual and automatic filling systems and is supplied in 25kg boxes.

FG Trading has been supplying SIVLITE™ desiccant and a comprehensive range of high-quality double glazing components, equipment and technical support to IGU manufacturers throughout Southern Africa for 15 years.

Pump-Operated Vacuum Suction Cup Lifters

Versatile. Practical. Ergonomic.

Handling heavy or delicate materials by hand is difficult and carries real risk — of breakages, damaged surfaces, and injury or strain to the operator. A suction lifter removes much of that risk. Lifting without direct hand contact reduces the risk of scratches and fingerprints, while the secure, reliable grip makes the entire process faster, safer and more efficient.

For repeated or extended handling of glass and other smooth, non-porous materials in the workshop or on-site, a pump-operated suction lifter is the ideal choice. Our pump-operated suction lifters are manual, handheld devices comprising a single, large rubber suction pad, combined with a robust steel and brass or ABS plastic body and handle. The vacuum is generated by pumping the plunger until the red ring is no longer visible, making these lifters a safe, dependable option for fabricators, glaziers and construction industry professionals.

Why the trade relies on these lifters:

✅ One lifter, multiple materials — Suited to a wide range of applications within its lifting capacity, including window glass, windscreens, glass shelves, splashbacks and balustrade panels, as well as sheet metal, composite panels, tiles, appliances and furniture.

✅ Configured for any load — Heavy-duty devices with high lifting capacities for handling larger or heavier materials. A concave rubber pad option is also available for use on curved surfaces.

✅ Optimal safety — An integrated red line indicator on the plunger provides a clear visual signal of any loss of vacuum, alerting the operator when re-pumping is necessary during extended periods of handling.

✅ Quick and convenient to use — Requiring no power source, the plunger generates the vacuum seal, and the ergonomic, easy-grip handle ensures comfortable operation. Fitted with a quick-release mechanism and an extruded lug on the rubber pad for straightforward removal without damaging the material or device.

✅ Built to last — Durable construction, protective pad covers and a carry case for safe storage, easy transport and repeated use in demanding environments. Replacement brass plungers are available to extend the working life of the devices.

Lifting without direct hand contact reduces the risk of scratches and fingerprints, while the secure, reliable grip makes the entire process faster, safer and more efficient.

For handling glass and other smooth, non-porous materials in the workshop or on-site, a lever-operated suction lifter is a practical choice. Our lever-operated suction lifters are manual, handheld devices comprising a set of rubber suction pads, combined with a strong aluminium or ABS plastic body and handle. The vacuum is generated immediately by simply engaging the lever above each pad, making these lifters a fast, dependable option for fabricators, glaziers and construction industry professionals.

✅ Configured for any load — Various lifting capacities across double, triple and four cup configurations, with additional cups improving stability on larger or heavier materials. Swivel-head models are also available for use on curved surfaces.

✅ Quick and convenient to use — Compact and lightweight, they're easy to carry between sites and ideal for confined working environments such as interiors and shopfitting. Requiring no power source, levers generate and release the vacuum seal in seconds, and the ergonomic, easy-grip handles ensure comfortable operation.

✅ Built to last — Durable construction and protective pad covers for repeated use in demanding environments. Replacement suction pad sets are available to extend the working life of the devices.

Preventing Structural Silicone Glazing Failures ⚠️

Structural glazing is one of the most demanding applications in facade construction. Success depends on correct system design, quality components, compatible materials, qualified workmanship and rigorous quality control. Oversight in any one of these areas can compromise the entire system.

As highlighted in our previous post, a structural silicone sealant is not a commodity. In flush-glazed facades, it is part of the structural load path of the curtain wall — often the only bonding agent bearing the full load. While it represents only a small portion of the total facade cost, it can make the difference between long-term performance and catastrophic failure.

Structural glazing failures can lead to serious injury or loss of life, costly repairs and replacements, legal disputes or liability, and reputational damage for individuals and businesses — often years after project completion. The cost of failure almost always exceeds any saving made during specification or construction.

In partnership with Tremco CPG, FG Trading provides a comprehensive 6-step project support programme including:

✅ Training & Technical Support
✅ Design & Specification Review
✅ Adhesion & Compatibility Testing
✅ Approved Products & Equipment
✅ Production & Application Audits
✅ Written Tremco CPG Warranty

Every step is designed to protect the integrity of the facade and the interests of every party involved. 🇿🇦
