The ArcelorMittal Foundation Saldanha Science Centre recently hosted its 4th annual career expo at the Saldanha Bay Multi-Purpose Centre, marking another milestone in the Centre’s mission to empower young people through education and career awareness.
Now recognised as the largest career expo on the West Coast, the event drew 55 exhibitors and collaborators, providing an interactive space for learners to connect with leading institutions and industries.
Using a rotational model, more than 450 learners had the opportunity to visit and engage with five exhibition sectors, gaining insight into diverse career paths in science, engineering, business, and higher education.
“The positive feedback from schools has been phenomenal. Educators commended the professionalism and planning behind the event. Proof of what can be achieved when collaboration drives a shared purpose.” - Xavier Lawrence, Science Centre Manager.
This year’s success would not have been possible without the incredible support of partners including the Saldanha Bay Municipality, Western Cape Education Department, University of Cape Town, Tronox, Lerole Power, Umoya Energy, Aurora Wind Power, Aquarius Mogs, Freeport Saldanha, and the South African National Petroleum Company (SANPC).
Special thanks to Amanda Lesch, the Science Centre’s event coordinator and the entire Science Centre team, whose dedication and attention to detail ensured that every aspect of the event ran smoothly.
The 2025 career expo once again reaffirmed the Science Centre’s role as a beacon of opportunity, partnership, and innovation in the Saldanha Bay region, shaping young futures and strengthening community ties.
