The original, interlocking, hollow core concrete blocks for landscaping and erosion control, designed in 1979 and exclusively manufactured by licensed partners in South Africa and 🇨🇦 🇦🇺 🇬🇭 🇳🇪 🇦🇪 🇪🇬 🇱🇸 🇸🇿 🇬🇧 🇪🇸 🇮🇳 🇳🇦 🇲🇦 YOUR LIVING CONCRETE WALL

In 1979, Terraforce® pioneered a versatile range of hollow, reversible interlocking retaining wall blocks, designed to build environmentally friendly, professional retaining wall systems that:

- allow plants to be part of the system

- provide soil erosion control by preventing soil movement,

- protect against flooding by directing water flow away from buildings,

- add extra outdoor space in sloping or terraced properties,

- improve aesthetic appeal when established as a functional yet attractive garden backdrop.

- offer unique block shapes that allows plants to become part of your wall in many creative ways!

- can also be used to build stairways or patios, helping to increase accessibility to entrances and outdoor areas. ONE BLOCK DOES IT ALL

The blocks are simply stacked using a horizontal interlock, a design that allows for unrestricted wall angles and curves to suit any environment - unhampered by Lego block type nibs and slots that are common in other systems - to provide a cost-effective and versatile earth retaining system. Even though the blocks are lightweight for easy delivery and installation, they are sufficiently heavy in mass when filled with soil, gavel or concrete providing sufficient vertical interlock. Terraforce® professional retaining wall systems vary in use from light gravity domestic concrete retaining walls to industrial geogrid reinforced earth-retaining or heavy gravity, double skin retaining walls. COMMITTED TO PROTECTING THE PLANET

Most Terraforce® Licensed Manufacturers use recycled concrete and clay bricks in the manufacture of Terraforce® stackable retaining blocks. ADHERING TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS

Terraforce® stackable, no-mortar retaining wall blocks adhere to local and international standards, having undergone extensive laboratory testing in South Africa, Europe, Canada, the USA and Australia – based on SANS 207, BS 8006 and ASTM-D6916-18 – by professional accreditation agencies over the last four decades. Terraforce® is a member of the Concrete Manufacturers Association (CMA) and a Level Four BBBEE Contributor. Terraforce blocks are exclusively manufactured by our trusted licensed partners in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Western Australia, British Columbia, Canada and India.

Project follow-up: Terraforce® walls at eZulwini, Eswatini, eleven years on

Cutting into the hillside for the new International Convention Centre and five-star resort exposed steep, unstable slopes. The solution was a tiered Terraforce® wall system: a 2m double-skin first tier, the base for 4m stepped tiers, reaching up to 26m, an all-time high for Terraforce® retaining wall engineering to date.

Designed by Fred Laker for Terrasafe® and installed by EFS Construction, a Terraforce® licensed manufacturer and recommended contractor, the walls used 267,700 customised L11 blocks.

A Terraforce® Terracrete™ permeable paver stormwater channel under construction in Wolseley, with the Western Cape mountains as a backdrop. The pavers interlock to form a continuous, hard-wearing lining that protects the channel from erosion. The inset shows the edging detail, where the blocks are set to finish the channel edge neatly and hold the lining in place against the surrounding ground.

The pavers are laid by hand, so the system suits sites with limited access as well as developed areas. Terracrete™ is supplied through Terraforce® licensed manufacturers across South Africa and internationally.

47 Years of Building Retaining Walls that Last

Since 1979, Terraforce® has been developing retaining wall and permeable paving systems that hold up in the real world, from steep rural access roads to large commercial developments.

That longevity comes from practical design, consistent block quality and a network of licensed manufacturers and recommended contractors who build to the same standard in every market. It is why Terraforce® walls are still standing, and still performing, decades after they were installed.

Whether the brief is a garden terrace, a stormwater solution or a major infrastructure slope, the approach remains the same: a system that is simple to install, built to last and designed to work with the land.

FLAT FACE. CLEAN LINES. MAXIMUM VERSATILITY.

Did you know that Terraforce® retaining blocks are reversible? Simply turn the block to display the Flat Face, creating a clean, solid and contemporary retaining wall finish.

The Flat Face is particularly effective where a more architectural appearance or near-vertical wall is required. Depending on the design, Terraforce walls can be constructed at varying inclinations, while the unique interlocking block shape allows for curves and corners.

From residential landscaping and parking areas to commercial and engineered retaining structures, the Flat Face offers yet another way to get more from the versatile Terraforce system.

One block. Different faces. Endless possibilities.

At their property in White Peaks, Western Australia, Jess and Phil Hadley have built a landscape installation that draws admiration from design professionals and passersby alike. Working with Terraforce® L16 blocks supplied by The Block Makers, the design proves refinement can be just as striking as boldness.

Tiered terracing, gently curved staircases and integrated planter boxes break up the wall faces with texture and life. The L16 block's smaller size and lighter weight made tighter radii and finer detailing possible, while a water-wise planting palette softens the hardscape without competing with it. The result feels both designed and organic, a balance that speaks to the owners' thoughtful approach.

Terraforce® rock face retaining walls take on a striking form when they follow the natural curve of a slope. The rugged, natural stone-textured block face includes planting in the setback created between each course, softening the wall itself with cascading groundcover.

Above and between the wall tiers, the terraces are landscaped separately, with lawn, ornamental grasses, and seasonal planting beds completing the layered, terraced look, while curving paver paths trace the base of the walls and link the different levels.

Rock face wall systems like this are well suited to large-scale residential and commercial developments where long, curving batters need both stability and a finished aesthetic that complements surrounding gardens and public spaces.

Terraforce® Blocks Terrace Steep Slope to Create Space for New Water Park

Terracing a steep slope next to a busy urban hotel district, this project made room for a new water park where the ground once dropped away sharply.

Curved retaining walls built from Terraforce® round face blocks step down the site in a series of sweeping terraces, following the natural contours rather than fighting them. The round face profile leaves pockets for planting between the blocks, and creeping groundcover has already begun to soften the stacked lines of the walls, with roses and shrubs taking root along the terraces.

Set against a dense backdrop of apartment blocks, the walls turn a difficult, confined site into usable, level ground, freeing up space for the water park's infrastructure while keeping the slope stable and green.

Ten luxury homes. One challenge: steep, heavily contoured ground in Bishopscourt, Western Cape, ZA.

For the Exeter Estate development by KingsHill Group, The Keep and New Land Developments, raised building platforms were needed to carve out space for tennis courts, lap pools, steam rooms, w**e cellars and multi-car garages on each 650 to 800 m² erf.

The solution was Terraforce® L12 blocks in charcoal, round face out, stacked in three 2m terraces at 70-degree angles. The round face left room for topsoil, allowing ten indigenous ground creeper species to be planted along the walls by Alan Dawson Gardens.

Blocks were supplied by Terraforce® licensed manufacturer Klapmuts Concrete / Cape Retaining Systems A total of 30 000 L12 blocks were installed on site by Decorton Retaining Systems, their first project using the L12 in charcoal with a round face finish.

Sneak peek: Terracing a mountainside in eZulwini, Eswatini

High up on the mountainside above eZulwini, Eswatini, Terraforce® round face retaining walls are holding back some of the highest cut slopes the system has tackled to date. Built for the new International Convention Centre and five-star hotel and resort, the tiered walls reach up to 26m in height, with EFS Construction, a Terraforce® licensed manufacturer and recommended contractor, supplying and installing over 267 000 blocks across the site.

Seedling pockets built into the concrete infill mean the walls were never meant to stay bare. Years on, palms, agaves and flowering shrubs have taken hold across the tiers, with the scalloped block lines still visible beneath the growth, tying the structure back into the surrounding hillside.
