Cape Town Society of Engineers

Cape Town Society of Engineers founded in 1907, home of the Amateur Engineer and builders of miniatures and models in Cape Town WHAT DO YOU DO?

For over 100 years our society has been a home for the backyard tinkerers, and those
fascinated by technology old and new, our subscription to the Model Engineer Magazine has
remained unbroken for 116 years this magazine publishes articles and plans to assist the
aspiring model maker to produce a miniature working replica of a full sized machine and the
society also has a commendable workshop to a

id in the endeavour. Our older members bring long lost skills and knowledge to assist the younger members and our
younger members bring new techniques and technologies to assist the older members. 3D
printing, CAD design work, Water and laser jet cutting have come to the fore in recent years
making long jobs drilling and filing out of solid material a thing of the past. Even so... sometimes
the old fashioned way of doing it is the best way. The society is in effect a museum of vintage miniature engineering and a learning space for old
and new skills in amateur engineering be it electronics, mechanics, metal turning, casting, 3D
printing, model ship, plane and train construction and much much more. If you want to build
something... this is the place to start!
