Checkers Lower Long Street opened its doors on 27 August, introducing a vibrant new retail destination in the heart of Cape Town.

Created with the pace and convenience of city living in mind, the store offers everything from freshly baked favourites and flowers to sushi, hot meals, butchery and easy food-to-go options—all within a smart, compact space. Facing onto the street, the Foreign Ground coffee shop adds to the experience, whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee or taking a moment to enjoy the energy of the city.

This store combines warm finishes, carefully considered displays and newly developed dark ash wood fronts to create a space that feels modern, welcoming and distinctly urban.

A milestone opening for Crawford—and a proud moment for IMS and the Shoprite Checkers group.

Checkers Foods Crawford officially opened on 27 August 2026 as the first fully Halaal-certified Checkers store in the Western Cape.

IMS is proud to have contributed custom-engineered retail solutions that combine functionality, refrigeration and dynamic visual experiences—including the Flower Retrobanco refrigeration display with integrated digital screens as well as a bakery section embedded bakery panels showcasing freshly baked goods. These solutions bring together refrigeration, functionality and dynamic visual storytelling—demonstrating how thoughtful engineering can elevate the modern retail experience.

Every element was created to support a modern retail environment designed around quality, community and customer experience.

Congratulations to our Sheet Metal Team — our IMS Heroes of the Month!

Through the three-part IGNITE training initiative, our teams were encouraged to identify everyday challenges, develop small and practical improvements, test their ideas, and present their learnings to the EXCO team. The initiative reinforced that meaningful innovation often begins with one simple, repeatable change.

The Sheet Metal Team stood out with the clearest and most practical idea: loading each unit separately with its corresponding parts to prevent components from becoming mixed during the bending process. This simple improvement can reduce the time spent searching for parts, minimise handling errors and improve overall workflow.

Their idea captured the heart of IGNITE — small changes, consistent action and meaningful impact.

Well done to Michael, Cindy, Donwin, Jadewin and Lucky for their teamwork, problem-solving and willingness to improve the way we work. You are truly deserving of the title IMS Heroes of the Month!
