I studied Mechanical Engineering at Technikon Natal ( NHD MECH ENG T4) 1990 to 1996 and started my working career off by doing my 6-month practical work at Aserma Manufacturing, a division of Denel the old and now defunct Armscor. After this I worked as an apprentice Tool and Die maker. My first Engineering position was that of an Industrial Engineer for a company producing heavy metal pressings for Toyota. I was then head hunted and moved to Smiths Manufacturing (Automotive Air-Conditioning) where I headed up the Parts and Accessory department within their Pipes and Hoses Division being responsible for the initial design, prototypes through to final packaging. Hereafter, at the age of 28, I decided to follow my passion for the sea and was given the opportunity to work for Safmarine as a Marine Engineer. I qualified soon after, being catapulted forward due to my previous Mechanical Engineering studies. I left Safmarine, (Now Maersk) before my first child was born and started doing contract work for various marine agencies and for marine related companies directly. I contracted my services out to some companies like Sea Harvest, Namdeb (Debeers/Namibian Government diamond mining consortium) and many others. In 2006 I secured land based work again as a Plant Engineer for a Waste Processing company. At the end 2007, I went back to my passion for the sea and worked as a Senior Projects Manager for a Shipbuilding and Repair company starting and running the entire Ship Repair Division.
