The Mountain Kingdom.
In case you ever asked yourself the question: “Why do they build so many dams in Lesotho?”

The answer lies in the topography. In this photo of the Malibamats’o River (just for the record the L is pronounced as a D in Sesotho) you can see how perfect this is for dam construction. Steep sided valleys without trees create dams that are narrow and deep, with much lower evaporation rates than normal dams.

The photo was taken about 30 km downstream of the Katse Dam on the road to Thaba Tseka.

That road is in poor condition. The 62 km will take around 3 hours in a 4x4. It is apparently scheduled for an upgrade in the near future.
