Like Lego Bricks... 🧱

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, our Liebherr LTM1200-5.1 was in action in Weston-super-Mare, supporting an ongoing site development project with the installation of modular buildings.

The operation involved carefully lifting and positioning prefabricated modular units into place. With restricted working areas and tight positioning tolerances, detailed planning, precise ex*****on, and close coordination between our lifting team and site personnel were key to completing the work safely and efficiently.

The versatile LTM1200-5.1 proved ideal for the project, offering the reach, lifting capacity, and manoeuvrability required for modular construction work in a busy site environment.

Bridging the Gap 🫡

Our Liebherr LTM 1150-5.3 150t crane was recently in action in Bridgwater, working on 45t ballast alongside our Volvo Hiab to support lifting operations on an ongoing infrastructure project.

The job involved the lift-in of a temporary bridge on the tidal defence, with challenging ground conditions and a restricted working area adding extra complexity.

By combining the lifting capability of the LTM 1150-5.3 with the flexibility of the Volvo Hiab, the team delivered an efficient solution for handling, transporting and positioning ballast and plates safely within the site.

Careful coordination between our operators and the wider site team ensured the operation was completed smoothly and safely.

⚡️Transformer Heavy Lift - 2/2 Completed ✅✅

Our Liebherr LTM 1300-6.3 was back in action at Maisemore, Gloucester, completing the installation of the second 53-tonne transformer on site.

Configured with full 88-tonne ballast, the crane was ideally set up to deliver the stability, control and performance required for this demanding lift.

Working within a live substation environment meant careful planning, coordination and communication were essential throughout. Thanks to the experience and precision of our team, the transformer was safely positioned into its final location with control maintained at every stage.

Another successful heavy lift completed, supporting continued progress on this important infrastructure project.

⛏️ A quarry might not be the first place you expect to see a tower crane, but this setup proves why it works.

Our team recently completed the installation of a Liebherr 81K.1 self-erecting tower crane at Brassington Moor Quarry in Matlock, Derbyshire, supporting ongoing site operations.

Configured with six tower sections, the crane is operating at maximum height, providing 40.4 metres height under hook and a 42-metre jib. This setup delivers excellent coverage across the working area, helping to support efficient material handling and flexibility within the quarry environment.

The installation was carried out by our experienced team, with Luke Hale, Sparrow’s Tower Crane Manager, on site to oversee and support the process, ensuring everything was completed safely and efficiently.

Self-erecting tower cranes such as the Liebherr 81K.1 are well suited to projects where space, speed of installation and operational efficiency are key, making them a strong choice for demanding environments like this.

☕️ Keeping those tea cups boiling!

Another busy week underway for one of our Liebherr LTM 1300-6.3, supporting a full transformer move from reload at Hallen, Bristol, through to final installation on site in Abergavenny.

The project began with the reloading of a 53-tonne transformer at Hallen, Avonmouth, for our clients Plant Speed Ltd, with the unit carefully lifted and secured for onward transport.

Once on site in Abergavenny, the same crane, operating with full ballast, was then used to unload and position the transformer into its final location.

Projects like this highlight the importance of coordination at every stage, from logistics and transport through to final placement. With detailed planning and experienced operators, the LTM 1300-6.3 delivered both phases of the lift safely and efficiently.

Another successful heavy lift completed, showcasing both the capability of our fleet and the strength of our team from start to finish.

That was the challenge on one of our latest operations, where our Liebherr LTM 1200-5.1 was deployed to complete a combination of lifts in a particularly restricted working area.

The job involved:
• repositioning a 9-tonne silo
• installing an 18-tonne heat exchanger
• working within a confined footprint that required detailed planning and precise ex*****on

With limited space available for crane set-up, the project demanded careful coordination from start to finish. Using VarioBase duties, the LTM 1200-5.1 was perfectly suited to the conditions, helping us maximise lifting performance while maintaining safe operation throughout.

In lifts like these, success comes down to more than capacity alone. It takes the right equipment, experienced operators, and a team that can deliver accuracy under pressure.

Another job completed safely and efficiently, with precision, performance, and teamwork making the difference.

Powering a University with sun rays ☀️⚡️

One of last weekend’s key operations saw our team supporting a solar panel installation project at Plymouth University for one of our regular clients Sureserve.

Using our Liebherr LTM 1060-3.1, equipped with a full hydraulic offset fly jib, the crane was perfectly configured to carry out the rooftop lifts safely and efficiently. The additional reach and flexibility provided by the fly jib made it ideally suited for placing equipment accurately at height within a constrained environment.

Deployed from our Plymouth depot, the crane and team worked seamlessly to complete the lifts, contributing to the ongoing development of renewable energy infrastructure on site.
