This website is very useful to compute Reynold number, y+ and other parameters to define the prism layers in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ as well as OpenFOAM snappyHexMesh for external and internal flow when meshing.

How to recognize difference between laminar flow and turbulent flow in CFD simulation?

What is turbulent?
1. Unpredictable: the flow is chaotic and change direction somewhere in the fluid
2. swirls on many scales: eddies or vortices span a huge range of sizes
3. Diffusive: it mixes things together
4. High Reynolds number: is result turbulent flow. Laminar flow only occurs at low Reynolds number
5. Dissipative: it takes in energy at the largest scales at these big eddies, until on the smallest scale that energy gets dissipated to the fluid as heat.
