In a City of Oaks, there has perhaps never been a White Oak quite like the one that stood on the great hill above the city in present-day Dorothea Dix Park.

The Oak seeded sometime in 1842. In April of 1865, General Sherman's army camped underneath it. For over 150 years, it provided shade to the many patients seeking help from Dorothea Dix Hospital.

And then, it fell down--as Oak trees always do.

At Oak City Customs, we were privileged to preserve some small part of this history for two beautiful pieces custom made for Wake County Councilwoman .

The integration of custom metal work helps tell the story of Raleigh, of Trees, of Change, and of History.
