hout the entire line of products developed by Anatomical Concepts, Inc. Offerings include the original concept design of the PRAFO® orthosis and an entire line of multifunction products to support the medical professional. The PRAFO® orthosis and the other AFO products manufactured by the company are made with custom contoured aluminum heel connector bars that help to control plantar and dorsiflexion by allowing infinite measureable adjustments. Unique patient needs can be addressed with various patented systems capable of providing solutions for conditions as diverse as setting and monitoring the ankle foot complex in the sagittal, coronal and the transverse planes. From its inception the company has custom-made KAFO's and also offers a new line of custom-fit and custom-made knee braces. The company's initial objective to fill a void in the custom fit AFO market has inspired the procurement of eleven US product patents since the company's inception in 1990. Some of these include patents for AFO accessories. The company also carries patents in several European countries. Providing solutions for medical professionals and helping to improve patient outcomes is still the driving force behind the corporation. Anatomical Concepts, Inc. products are FDA registered and also carry the CE marking.

Improving patient outcomes often starts with improving clinical efficiency.

Prefabricated KAFO systems reduce the delays associated with custom fabrication while still allowing for necessary adjustments to fit and function. This enables clinicians to begin treatment sooner and adapt care as patients progress—all without compromising quality.

Flexibility in treatment often requires flexibility in design.

The Prefabricated KAFO system offers a modular approach, allowing clinicians to use it as a full KAFO or transition to separate knee and ankle components as patient needs evolve. This versatility supports continuity of care while adapting to each stage of rehabilitation.

Timing plays a critical role in rehabilitation.

Prefabricated KAFO systems allow clinicians to begin orthotic intervention immediately, without waiting for custom fabrication. This early access to support can help patients participate in therapy sooner, improving safety, positioning, and overall progress during recovery.

No two patients progress the same way, and their orthotic care shouldn’t either.

Adjustability plays a key role in effective rehabilitation. With a Prefabricated KAFO system, clinicians can modify alignment, positioning, and support levels as patient needs change over time. This flexibility allows for continuous optimization without interrupting care or requiring a new device.

May marks National Arthritis Awareness Month, bringing attention to a condition that significantly impacts mobility, joint stability, and overall quality of life for millions of patients.

For healthcare providers, managing arthritis goes beyond symptom relief. Orthotic devices can play an important role in improving alignment, reducing joint stress, and supporting safer, more efficient movement. When integrated into a comprehensive care plan, these solutions help patients maintain independence and stay active.

When should you choose a custom AFO versus a prefabricated solution?

This decision often depends on factors such as patient anatomy, stage of rehabilitation, and long-term treatment goals.

Prefabricated orthoses can provide immediate support and adjustability, while custom devices offer more precise alignment and long-term management.

Understanding how to integrate both options into your treatment approach can help improve patient outcomes and streamline care.
