Farm to Freezer friends -
SO many of you have asked how you can help. This is how! By helping the Horn Farm Center get back up and running you are helping Farm to Freezer. The summer kitchen does not have electricity or running water at this time. The Horn Farm is working to get that fixed but it is just one thing on a LONG list of things that need to be done.
We are moving to a temporary kitchen in a local church but we want more than anything to BE BACK HOME at the Horn Farm. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. Please check out their list of needs at this point and see if there is something you are able to contribute. THANK YOU!

On the night of October 25th, lightning struck the Horn Farm Center’s historic farm house, destroying the 2nd and 3rd floors. While we are devastated, we are incredibly thankful for the outpouring of support, prayers, and well wishes from our community. We are endlessly grateful to the dozens of f...

Today was about working together as a team and a community. We certainly felt your arms wrapped around us! People stepped up to help without even being asked and offered us assistance in ways we didn't even know we needed. Thank you!

The second and third floor of the farmhouse are gone. The first floor and basement experienced significant damage and flooding. The summer kitchen in still standing with minimal damage, however there is no electricity or water in the kitchen.

We survived a pandemic and we know we can make it through this too! If you are one of our Freezer Club members, please check your email tonight regarding Thursday's orders.

We are looking at numerous options for a temporary location. Your ideas are certainly welcome. Thank you again for all of the support. We will keep you updated as we learn more.

Thank you!

Such a sad night, but thankful that no one was hurt. I have seen this community come together in unbelievable ways before and I know we will again to help the Horn Farm Center. As for Farm to Freezer, we are assessing the situation and will be in touch directly with those of you that were planning to see us this Thursday for either pick up or delivery. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Tonight's turn of events is truly a test of our resilience. While we are devastated, we are incredibly thankful for the outpouring of support, prayers, and well wishes from our community. We are also endlessly grateful to the dozens of local fire companies, who worked through the night to get fire under control. A special thanks to Hellam Fire Company, who led the efforts.

In the coming days we will be taking stock and determining our next steps. What we do know now is that the third and second floor of the historic farmhouse building (our office building) have been destroyed. Fortunately, we were able to salvage our most important files, paperwork, archives, framed photos and maps, and a number of office equipment, computers, and items from the first floor. No one was on site or injured during the event.

We have had some requests about how to support the Horn Farm at this time. Most immediately, we are able to accept donations via our website: hornfarmcenter.org/donate or patreon: patreon.com/hornfarm We will likely need other support in the form of volunteering, supplies, and professional services. We will share more and keep everyone up to date as our needs and path forward become more clear.

We believe that our power and our resilience lies in our relationships. We have a long road ahead of us, but we know the future is bright. In my short time leading the farm, I have seen so many of you offer your passion, talent, and sweat, blood, and tears to this organization, because you all truly believe in the work we do. I am absolutely certain that together we will persevere. Let the ashes of this tragedy be fertile soil for our future growth and community.

- Alexis Campbell, HFC Executive Director

For direct inquiries, please contact [email protected]. On behalf of the Horn Farm Center Board and staff we thank you for your support and patience.

If you plan to drive past the farm, we ask that you please do not approach the farmhouse building in the interest of public safety.

The Horn Farm Center’s Summer Kitchen is bustling once again after being closed to classes during the pandemic. This month we welcomed a new tenant – Farm to Freezer YORK.

Farm to Freezer offers freshly prepared food made with locally sourced ingredients. Owner, Mary Ellen Martin and her staff are utilizing the Summer Kitchen several times a week to prepare healthy, nutritious, and flavorful ready-to-cook meals to their Freezer Club members. We are proud to support this local business at the Horn Farm!

Farm to Freezer has a new home! A year ago COVID put an end to our group meal prep sessions. Thanks to our wonderful customer support we were able to keep things going with a delivery/pick up service of prepared freezer meals. This past year allowed for refocusing, reprioritizing and a renewed sense of collaboration! We have come full-circle and are now located in a restored summer kitchen at the Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education. Sometimes the stars just align beautifully. We are excited for the possibilities this location will bring! Hope to see you soon!
