It is with a heavy heart that Southeast Sheet Metal Contractors honors the memory of our owner, Ken Whitmer, in his passing. ❤️

Kenneth was well known and well respected throughout not only the DC metropolitan area, but areas spanning from Baltimore to the Chesapeake region of Virginia for his fundamental knowledge and expertise in the sheet metal fabrication, hvac, and welding industries. His craftsmanship and integrity has defined the standards to which Southeast Sheet Metal holds itself today.

A new client came in to our office recently inquiring about their existing backyard canopy. The canopy which was made of a canvas material, was succumbing to seasonal weather shifts, and had been replaced multiple times due to damage. The client was looking for an alternative to their canvas style canopy, and wondered if we could put metal in its place.

After visiting the client’s home to see what the existing canopy structure looked like, we informed them that we could absolutely fabricate a standing-seam metal canopy that would mount to their vertical canopy posts.

The new metal canopy was shop fabricated from 24 ga, Black, Kynar 500 coated steel. We fabricated bracing for the underside of the canopy, and a couple additional support posts to run between the existing vertical posts. The pictures here show the finished product after being put back in place at the customer’s home, and some photos during the fabrication process in our shop.

Needless to say, our client’s original canopy has been transformed from a typical store-bought product into a custom fabricated, one-of-a-kind metal canopy which offers better weather resistance, and carries an architectual construction that is truly visually appealing!

Custom fabricated 20 gauge galvanize filter rack for an HVAC system. This filter rack was fabricated because the existing filter rack was rusting, and the owner wanted to reduce the size of the existing filter from 4” down to 2”.

When fabricating this filter rack we maintained all existing dimensions except for the actual rack that holds the filter. We reduced it in size by 2” to allow for a slimmer filter to be utilized in this HVAC system.

We also added an access panel on the end which can be latched and unlatched to allow for easy removal and replacement of the filter in this duct system.

Here at Southeast Sheet Metal we are capable of fabricating all types of commercial and residential HVAC duct work and providing HVAC accessories such as diffusers, grilles, registers, etc.

Steel pipe guards fabricated from 3/16” thick mild steel, painted safety yellow.

These pipe guards mount to the wall where various pipes are exposed in high traffic areas in places such as loading docks, parking garages, and back room/receiving areas in grocery stores.

These pipe guards mount to the wall and provide protection from damage resulting from vehicles, forklifts, pallet jacks, rolling carts, and other various pieces of equipment that are typically used for n these high traffic areas.

At Southeast Sheet Metal we commonly fabricate pipe guards like these for various customers. They come in all shapes and sizes with some being tall, some being short, some being wide, some being thin, some being round, and some having rigid edges in the shapes of squares, rectangles, hexagons, etc.

These pictures show a stainless steel cabinet counter top and stainless steel wall panels that we recently fabricated and installed for our friends at American Legion Post 162 in Lorton, Virginia.

These custom fabricated pieces are made from type 304, #4, brushed finish stainless steel. They offer both a modern cosmetic appeal as well as the sanitary benefits of stainless steel surfaces in the Legion’s event and kitchen areas.

We’d like to thank our friends at Lorton Legion 162 for all they do for our country’s veterans and their families. Their extraordinary service to our community is second to none!

Custom fabricated grocery store signage letters for the Dairy department at the new Whole Foods in Arlington.

The “D” is an original letter provided to us in order to fabricate the required new letters. We utilized our plasma cutter to burn out the letters, which were then welded to provide the “3D style” effect these letters offer.

The letters will be painted to match the originals by the customer, and will be on display at the new Whole Foods stores in Arlington very soon!

2” X 2” X 1/8” thick steel posts welded to the flat bed on the back of a truck which carries large loads of cargo.

The steel posts which were cut to size, and had a cap welded to the top, have holes drilled in them for an eye bolt to be inserted. The eye bolt inserts will allow for a chain or aircraft cable to be run between the posts to act as a barrier fo their cargo.

Just another of the many custom fabrication projects we see at Southeast Sheet Metal on a daily basis!

Custom fabricated, 18 ga, #4 finish, type 304 stainless steel pipe cover box and wall cap.

The pipe cover box shown in this picture has a flanged bottom with fully welded, grinder, and polished corners for fastening the box to the ground. The back side of the box which is not pictured is open so that it may butt up against a wall. The purpose of this particular box is to cover exposed piping at the wall and ground in a commercial kitchen area where the exposed pipes are prone to being kicked, having kitchen items dropped on them, and incurring other general damage due to exposure.

The long pieces you see are wall caps meant to prevent damage to the ends of walls, and the tops of low wall areas where they risk being hit by hand trucks, pallet jacks, and other equipment used during deliveries in the same commercial kitchen area.
