- When it comes to Below-the-Hook equipment, weld integrity is critical.

All welding is performed in accordance with ANSI/AWS D14.1, which defines requirements for weld procedures, welder qualifications, inspection criteria, and overall fabrication quality for material handling equipment.

This helps ensure proper weld pe*******on, controlled heat input, and minimized defects - reducing the risk of fatigue cracking and failure under load.

- Not all bails are created equal. On below-the-hook (BTH) devices like lifting beams and spreader bars, the bail plays a critical role in how the device interfaces with the crane hook.

Flame cut bails can create sharp edges that wear prematurely, "dig" into the hook bowl, and cause nicks and gouges during use.

The Peerless advantage = machined bails which are designed to match the radius of the crane hook, provide smoother, more consistent contact, and help reduce wear on both the bail and the hook - resulting in safer, more reliable lifting and longer equipment life.

– Although alloy chain may appear to look normal when suspended, there may be excessive wear between the links, which is criteria for removal per OSHA 1910.184, OSHA 1926.251, and ASME B30.9. A caliper or an alloy chain gauge that is calibrated to the NACM Minimum Allowable Thickness Table can be used to measure the chain within the radius area - the curved portion on the chain links where contact is made with the next link or a connector pin. If using a gauge and it slides onto the chain, the chain must be removed from service. Chain gauges are only to be used with Grade 80 and Grade 100 NACM Alloy Chain.
