Some customer visits come with a little more horsepower than others!

Territory Manager Tara Love and VP of Sales Shane Frye came across a little Indy 500 history during a recent visit to Riverside Manufacturing in Fort Wayne.

Driven by Dan Wheldon for Panther Racing, the No. 4 National Guard car started 18th and finished second in the 2009 Indianapolis 500, with Riverside Manufacturing among its sponsors.

We spend a lot of time inside manufacturing facilities, and you never quite know what you'll come across along the way. This one definitely deserved a photo.

Making room for what's next!

The tape measures are out at our Wi******er facility as we map out the space for a big project headed our way.

Let's just say this layout is about to look a lot different.

Your production line shouldn't have to work around a material handling system that no longer fits the operation.

When this customer needed operators working from both sides of an assembly line again, the existing crane configuration had to change. S&K reconfigured the runway layout and installed four new Gorbel bridges to restore the coverage the operation needed.

There was another requirement: production couldn't stop.

Our installation team completed the reconfiguration during second shift, allowing the customer to make the change without sacrificing production time.

If your operation has changed but your material handling system hasn't, talk to S&K. There may be a better way to use what you already have.

Yesterday, S&K Industrial Territory Manager Scott Durbin spent the day at the KY-MEP's Expo at Northern Kentucky University, connecting with manufacturers and industry partners from across the region.

New projects, production challenges, and what's happening on the plant floor made for plenty of good conversations and opportunities to discuss where S&K can help.

Thanks to Kentucky Manufacturing Extension Partnership for bringing Kentucky's manufacturing community together. We enjoyed being part of it!

What happens when lifting capacity needs to move with the work? For a new manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama, that meant incorporating flexible overhead lifting capacity into the plant floor from the start.

S&K supplied a 1-ton Gorbel fixed steel gantry crane with a 15-foot span and 1-ton Gorbel hoist, partnering with Noble Crane Service and Rigging for installation. The gantry provides lifting capacity where it's needed without the infrastructure of a permanent runway system.

As manufacturers plan new facilities and production areas, decisions about how material will be lifted, moved and positioned are part of designing the operation around the work.

What takes a sling out of service?

Cuts, abrasion, damaged stitching and other signs of wear can make the difference between equipment that's ready for the next lift and equipment that needs to be removed from use.

Jason Villas, Senior District Sales Manager for Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois with Lift-All Company, Inc., was at our Wi******er shop today inspecting S&K's lifting slings and rigging inventory alongside our team.

It's a closer look at the details behind safe lifting and the same standards we expect from the equipment we use every day.

For this 3-ton crane project, S&K integrated a new beam and hoist, control panel and controls, wiring, conductor bar, and header kit with the facility's existing support structure. Our team also fabricated custom haunches specifically for the application.

The result is a complete lifting system built around what was already on the customer's floor.

S&K Industrial employees and their families spent an evening at the ballpark with the Lexington Legends.

It was a great opportunity to get together outside of work, enjoy the game, and spend time with the people behind S&K and the families who support them.
