Maximizing the airflow of the Skunk2 Pro Series intake manifolds from B Series and H Series (Port Match and Speed Bump Removal).

Port matching your intake manifold to your throttle body is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to improve air flow in your air intake system; if you have the tools of course. Slapping a bigger throttle body onto an intake manifold that has a smaller opening results in there being a small lip that the air will come in contact with before flowing into the plenum. This is not ideal.

Also, the Skunk2 cast manifolds have a small casting lip that is a few inches past the plenum opening. We call this the "Speed Bump."

Our solution to the lip and speed bump problem is to match up and trace a thermal gasket that is the size of the throttle body we would like to install on the manifold. In this case we are installing a 74mm throttle body so we used a 74mm thermal gasket.

We then use a right angle die grinder with a tungsten carbide bit to remove the lip and contour the new opening so the air will flow smoothly into the plenum. We then do the same to the Speed Bump.

Now that the opening on the intake manifold matches the size of the throttle body, we move onto the finishing stages of smoothing it out with a sanding bit to allow the air to glide across the newly ported surface.

That's looking so much better. Notice that the Speed Bump has been completely removed and polished allowing for optimal airflow within the intake manifold plenum.

Note: The sharpie marks you see in the photo above are just on the thermal gasket from when we traced it earlier.

And finally here is our finished product with the thermal gasket and 74mm throttle body installed.

This is a brand new product here at Valex Racing. This is an AEM fuel rail with an Aeromotive style fuel pressure regulator adapted to fit directly on the rail. This is sweet for a few reasons. One: It's simple. Two: It looks awesome. Three: It is a expandable in the future if you want to convert it to an off rail shock tower mounted system.

We finally got the hood onto the CRX. We took a long time to finalize the hood fitment because we wanted to trim as little as possible from the skeleton.
Either way, we’re happy that the hood is on and the car is ready for a drive.
As a refresher, this is a full K20 Type-R swap with matching trans. The car is light, makes good power and is really fun to drive. We’re still deciding what the next swap will be for the car, but for now we’re just getting it cleaned up and ready for the season.

Automotion Wisconsin is a little over a week away 5/15-5/17. This year you will find us cruising the strip with the FK8.
We’ve been going to this event for years and almost always use this event as a deadline to complete some project on one of the shop cars. This year we’re bringing the FK8 out to do a bit more testing with the changes that we made back in 2024 (and to just enjoy a nice drive in a fun car).
For those that are unfamiliar with Automotion, it is a car show that takes place in the Dells the weekend before Memorial Day every year. Tons of car guys and truck guys from all over gather there and spend the weekend driving up and down the strip and checking out some interesting builds. We’re excited. This is our take on a very classic B series intake design. Yes it looks simple, but there is more at play than meets the eye. We first take a 3" aluminum intake pipe and modify it to our shape and size. Then we powder coat it wrinkle black in house. Finally we pair it with a Skunk2 Velocity Stack air filter combo. Remove the filter and expose the velocity stack for a bit more power and track styling. This is a surefire way to make your engine bay look awesome while increasing power. This will work with any B series engine setup. This will not work with Skunk2 ultra intake manifolds since the throttle body is angled on those manifolds.
