The year was 1979, and change was happening at the Hardware and Feed Store in West Middlesex. Two hardworking brothers in their twenties bought the store from Fred Matea. While working to provide the community with the items and services needed to build and grow, they were also learning to build and grow a business of their own.
In the nearly five decades of Seredays, the store has seen many changes — within the business, the community, and our family.
There is no longer an RC Cola machine, but the original scales are still there, and one has weighed everything from feed to kids to luggage. Over the years, we learned to adapt as a business to the changing needs of our customers by offering things like our special blend of birdseed made specifically for our area.
Some changes have been good, and some have been hard. We have welcomed new generations and have also experienced loss together — both within our community and within our own family, including Ken’s brother and business partner, Gary.
Seredays is more than just a business. It’s being greeted by the happy sound of peeps in the spring. It’s having someone load your vehicle or deliver what you need. It’s someone knowing what you came in for before you even say a word. It’s telling Ken about something that needs fixed at your house or farm and him giving you both the supplies and the advice to help get the job done.
It’s the wonderful employees, past and present, who have been part of the Seredays family over the years. It’s the smell of feed, seed, and oil that was unique to that store. It’s the conversations at the counter, the familiar faces, and the rhythm of days lived out there for decades.
Now the year is 2026, and change is happening at the Hardware and Feed Store in West Middlesex once again. This Saturday will bring both a joyful and difficult change.
We celebrate Ken and 47 years in business while also saying goodbye to an era built through faith, sacrifice, hard work, and community.
Our final day will be Saturday, May 30th. We would love for you to share a favorite memory or well wishes for Ken in the comments, or by stopping by the store this week.
We will also have light refreshments and cookies available on Saturday as we celebrate our final day, and we would love for you to stop in and see us one last time.
We are incredibly grateful for the support, loyalty, and kindness you have shown us throughout the years. Being part of this wonderful community has meant more to us than words can express, and we will always cherish the memories we created together.
