How inefficient is round packaging for shipping? See the air between those round containers? Let's look at the data....

If these Ratio Yogurts from General Mills changed to a square container vs round it would have the following impacts:

Yogurt Cups per 53' Truck Increase: 29% (That's huge)
Master Carton Size Reduction: 19.8%
Paperboard Carton Size Reduction: 20%

Is switching from a round container to a square easy? No
Will marketing push back? Possibly

With that being said, dismissing opportunities like this without having the data on potential savings is making uninformed decisions.
