We have been in business since 1903 rebuilding all types of machinery.

In 1986, John Pelletier a long time Lucas employee purchased the company and moved it to Waterbury. Since moving to Waterbury our prime focus has been horizontal and vertical double disc grinders. We have provided turnkey grinding solutions for many of the top bearing manufacturers in plants across the world.

Last week we celebrated John's retirement, after 30 years here at J.L. Lucas. Although he specialized in the Besly grinders, he has had a hand in just about all the machines that have shipped out of here in that time. In addition to celebrating with our crew, he was joined by other Lucas retirees, as well his son and grandson. Congratulations John, and thank you for all that you've done here over the years!

We survived the Eclipse of 2024 at J.L. Lucas Machinery Company, Inc.. We were supposed to have 92% totality here in Waterbury but the clouds moved in after lunch. The birds kept flying, crickets didn't start chirping, and the hordes of locusts seemed to have stayed in hibernation.

This weekend we received a message from someone that discovered this promotional J.L. Lucas & Son Zippo lighter that belonged to their Father. He was a Waterbury native born in 1911. Its closing in on a hundred years old and still lights.😀

After 30 years and 11 months of being the person on the other end of the line here at Lucas, Sue has retired. Sue is Jack's sister and is second only to him for number of years working at Lucas. The previous record holder for longest employment, and now retired spindle builder, Danny joined us all to wish Sue the very best in retirement. We had a very nice lunch and cake to celebrate the big day!

We have been getting some unsolicited visits from the neighborhood over the past two weeks. They seem interested in what we are doing but don't say much.

We were happy to be involved with a unique project for one of our favorite customers. A1 Lapping and Machine Co. was looking to get their first machine restored, to commemorate Gordy Greenberg's 47 years with the company. After three generations of family and many machines later, A1 Lapping has grown into one of the industry's premier vendor for fine grinding, lapping and high volume double disc grinding. The Heald 25-A horizontal rotary surface grinder started right up, and ran great so that we could resurface the chuck. Our guys did a great job on the restoration, and today it was received at their facility. Thanks again Jason, for selecting us to work on this important piece of your company's history.

It's a beautiful day to ship a machine. This remanufactured Gardner SDG3-26" rotary is on it's way to Northern California.

This past week we successfully ran off two remanufactured Gardner SDG-3 through feed grinders. They will be installed in a new division of one of our good customers. These will be their 4th and 5th remanufactured double disc grinder from J.L. Lucas. The 6th is currently being built for an early summer delivery.

We are looking to hire a full time Toolmaker to work on both manual and CNC machines. We produce small runs of parts to support our machine builds and replacement parts company. A minimum of 5 years of experience is required. State Toolmaker papers a plus. Candidate must be capable of running lathes, mills, and grinders to produce parts from prints. Parts will be made from water jet and flame cut plate, bar stock, and castings. We are not a production shop.
