In belt splicing, the finished product is only as good as the preparation that went into it. Fundamentals aren't always fun, but they're what everything else is built on.

Measured, squared, centered, marked. It's not exciting, but it makes exciting things possible.

When you think about everything a conveyor system accomplishes every day, spending a few extra minutes on preparation is a small investment.

And the returns can compound over time.

When a mechanical splice rips out on a fully loaded belt, and a crew comes in, installs new mechanical fasteners, pulls the belt back together, and gets production back on schedule, are they really just a belt crew?

Or are they more like… oh, I don't know… superheroes? My words, not theirs.

That's our own Marvin Graber in action during that very scenario. According to Dustin Surber, who snapped the photo, it was no easy task.

Spoiler alert: It ended well. Good job team 👏

And thanks to Dustin for the photo! Our guys in the field put up with a lot of photography requests from us on the marketing team. Somehow, even in the middle of a challenging repair, they still manage to snap some pretty epic shots.

Running from the primary surge pile to the secondary plant, this conveyor is a critical link in the production process.
When it's time to replace the belt, proper installation matters.
Our crew recently pulled on 500 feet of 48-inch D6 belting, working together to guide the belt into position and ensure a smooth installation.

What we're looking at here is the end of an idler can (in more ways than one).

It had been bad for so long that the edge of the belt ate through the steel multiple times. In return, the can shaved off a few inches of belt. Team work.

We fixed it of course. But I think we all would rather catch these kinds of problems before your belt starts making conveyor confetti out of itself and its sidekicks.

With winter maintenance already ramping up, now's the time to give us a call!

Can we all agree that primary belt cleaners are the beach towels of the material handling world?
Hear me out.

If you've been to the beach this summer, chances are you're still finding sand in— never mind. You're finding sand.

But if you made the upgrade from your old, worn-out beach towel to a nice oversized, sand-resistant beach towel, you probably greatly reduced your personal carryback.

So I guess what I'm saying is, primary scrapers are like beach towels, but they aren't all created equal.

Better quality. Well installed. Well adjusted, makes for a much better beach-going/material-handling experience.

May your beach memories keep you warm and happy as we head into fall. 🍁
