I believe Governor Gavin Newsom is not receiving accurate wildfire facts needed to make informed decisions. Newsweek February’s 07, 2025 news article: State officials and researchers say embers are responsible for 90 percent of structures destroyed by wildfire. California Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot, in a press release says it was an ember-driven fire.
NIST.TN.2205 Peer revived it’s structure to structure ignition. and THE 1994 - The Biswell Symposium: Fire Issues and Solutions in Urban Interface and Wildland Ecosystems February 15–17, 1994 Walnut Creek, California David R. Weise Robert E. Martin Technical Coordinators
Using physical reasoning, the potential for ignition by firebrands (embers) is subjectively related to the firebrand (ember) exposure and the structure’s exposed flammable nooks and crannies and roof material. SIAM calculates the influence of firebrands on the ignition potential separately from the direct flame heat transfer influence.p87
Here's the problem homeowners are not being informed how to protect their homes from direct flame heat transfer influence. 99% of sites mitigating homes from fires only address the influence of firebrands.
When Governor Gavin Newsom is being told embers burned down Los Angles Pacific Palisades and Altadena that's not true. 94% of California’s urban homes are high density low separation distance with many homes as close as 6 ft. Building homes using IBC 5 combustible building materials when set ablaze burns as hot as gasoline fuel 1,200 degrees Kelvin-1700.33 Fahrenheit burns the next home by direct flame heat transfer influence structure to structure ignition.
