In the fall of 1965, with an idea to bring quality products at a fair price to Warrensburg and the surrounding communities, Ray Swisher and Louis Feldman opened what was then called Louie’s Farm & Home. With a gravel parking and only 10,000 square feet of retail space, Louie’s Farm & Home supplied everything from every day household items and work clothes, to fencing and other farm related items.
The popular little store quickly became known simply as, “Louie’s,” and soon out grew its original footprint. Early expansion included several additions to the building, providing room to broaden the variety of merchandise within the store. Serving customers from several communities, Louie’s was on the way to becoming the number one source for home, hardware, power equipment, and agricultural related products in West-Central Missouri. In 1983, patrons and the community were shocked by the unexpected illness and passing of business partner and store manager, Louis “Louie” Feldman. Shortly thereafter, the Feldman’s share of the business was purchased and the name was changed to Farm & Home of Warrensburg. In the years to come, the vast array of products would expand to include fashion clothing, giftware, and in 1995 customers were delighted with the addition of wireless phones and service plans. Farm & Home continued looking to the future through expansion, adding a larger warehouse, and a larger power equipment department. Now entirely owned and operated by three generations of the Swisher family, even more emphasis could be placed on bolstering the selection of products and services offered. In early 2011, it was decided to change store’s name to Swisher’s in order to better reflect the family’s involvement in the history and growth of the communities’ favorite retail store. of retail, warehouse, and loading space, our inventory has grown to much more than that of just a farm store. We continue introducing new unique and relevant products, and we like to say we offer something for everyone. In 2014 Swisher's continues to serve Johnson County and the surrounding area.
