OPEN POSITION: Electrical Designer

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Designer to join our growing team. This individual will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers to develop electrical system designs for a variety of building types. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their career in a dynamic consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities

Develop electrical system designs including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems
Prepare construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD
Perform load calculations, short circuit, and voltage drop calculations
Coordinate with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and architectural teams
Assist with specifications, reports, and construction administration tasks
Conduct site visits and field investigations as needed
Support senior engineers and project managers throughout project lifecycle

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
2–6 years of experience in MEP consulting engineering (preferred)
Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
Familiarity with NEC and applicable building codes
Strong communication and organizational skills
EIT certification or on track to obtain (preferred)

On May 8, 2024, Wayne Mattson, President and Mechanical Department Head of Griffith and Vary, Inc. was honored to be one of the presenters for the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) “Post Occupancy (POE) Insights: Planning for building turnover & operation meeting at Plymouth South High School.
Wayne, discussed & presented information to help school districts prepare for the cost and complexity associated with modern HVAC systems that are designed to meet current energy codes, including the stretch code. Wayne was chosen to be on this panel due to his 35 years of knowledge and expertise regarding HVAC design and engineering.

Griffith and Vary, Inc. is proud to be the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineers for the renovation and addition to the Melrose Public Library with Tappé Architects.

Construction is well underway and this project is taking shape nicely.

Congratulations to Ian Purdy for joining the Electrical team at Griffith and Vary, Inc.

Ian has 6 years of experience in the design engineering field. Ian brings a unique set of knowledge and understanding since he has previously worked in every MEP trade as a drafter, BIM specialist, and a coordination engineer. He has a great amount of Revit experience and is a dedicated, positive addition to the team!

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: Cornell Dubilier Office Fit-Out, New Bedford, MA

Griffith and Vary, Inc. provided Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering services for the Cornell Dubilier Office Fit-Out Project with JMBA Architects.

This recently completed project consisted of a renovation to an old mill building, which was built in 1909, located in New Bedford, MA. The old mill was converted into approximately 20,000 square feet of office space which includes conference rooms, break room, kitchenette and restrooms.

The open ceilings with beautifully painted duct work and piping and the unique lighting elements throughout this building make for an inviting and modern working environment.
