Ever notice how many lifted trucks become less aerodynamic?
One piece of feedback we’ve consistently heard from customers running our fender flare systems on Toyota trucks is a reported 1–2 MPG improvement after installation. While results vary by vehicle, tire setup, driving habits, and conditions, the trend is interesting enough that we’ve taken a closer look.
When larger wheels and tires are added, they often protrude beyond the body, creating additional turbulence around the wheel openings. Our flares help guide airflow around the tire’s leading edge, reducing some of the drag and turbulence generated by exposed tread and wider track widths.
The same applies to our rock sliders. Unlike traditional round-tube designs, our sliders feature a flat, angled lower surface that helps smooth airflow along the side of the vehicle. Several customers have also reported MPG improvements after switching from tubular sliders to our design.
They’re designed first and foremost for protection and functionality, but improved airflow appears to be a welcome side effect.
