Cleaned out a couple ducts down in Sanford this past week and guess what we found?
A mouse!
Apparently the home owners had been having a mouse problem in the house. After setting out some traps, they began to smell something dead in the kitchen duct.
After a thorough inspection and cleaning of the ductwork in the house, we found this mouse down at the damper of the kitchen Duct.
That mouse was a bit nasty!

This homeowner had severe lint buildup packed inside the dryer vent box and ductwork — a hidden but very real fire risk. As you can see in the photos, lint was collecting heavily behind the dryer and inside the vent system, restricting airflow and forcing the dryer to work harder than it should. The flex duct behind the dryer was also not securely connected, causing a large amount of lint to blow into the house.

We were called out because the homeowner had noticed lint in their attic. After inspecting the Dryer Duct we saw that there was an unsealed elbow. After resealing the elbow with heat rated tape, we clean the Dryer Vent and did an airflow test. Their original airflow reading was 8.9 mph, and we increased it to 15.9 mph!

Cleaned up this house in youngsville today! This one was built in 2000 and had some good buildup. Found some old beer caps, Pokémon cards, coins, and basic dust and drywall.

Cleaned a house in Raleigh today! This one was built in the 90s, so it had a bit of build up and debris. The vacuum was run multiple times through each duct in order to completely clean them.
After the amount of debris, we’re gonna need to change the vacuum filter. We pulled out large amounts of dust, drywall pieces, roaches, etc.

This dryer duct was about 23 feet long and had flex duct the whole way! We came in and ripped out the old flex duct and replaced it with 4 inch hard duct so this dryer vent would meet code standards. We also replaced the exterior cap that was cracked and dry rotted from the sun.
After completing the replacement, we took an airflow reading and got 16.3 MPH out the exit.
Code requires dryers to have a minimum airflow speed of 13.2 out the back of a dryer, and we had plenty over!
