Please join us in welcoming Nathaniel Wurzer, to our Hey Team! Nathaniel is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, WI with a Master of Engineering with a concentration in Civil. His previous work included both civil engineering and ecological restoration projects. He is most content on a stroll through the Northwoods of Wisconsin, especially during mushroom season.

Please join us in welcoming Dan Pulio to our Hey Team. Dan started with our firm earlier this year. Dan is a graduate of Iowa State University with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. In his previous role, Dan produced construction plans for commercial, industrial, and recreational developers. His previous work experience includes site design, managing medium to small scale engineering projects, assisting with Micro and Macro Stormwater Study Reports, and developing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans. Outside of work, Dan enjoys running, hiking, and traveling/exploring new places. He also likes to watch and cheer on Chicago based sports teams and the Iowa State Cyclones football and basketball teams.

Last week we gathered to celebrate Hey and Associates' 50-year anniversary. This company started with Donald Hey’s vision. Some of us still have a direct connection to him, and his curiosity and spirit continue to show up in our work today. To everyone who’s been part of the firm, past and present, and to our clients and partners, thank you. This milestone reflects the collective effort of many people, and we appreciate everyone who helped make it possible.

Tim Pollowy presented with Deanna Doohaluk (The Conservation Foundation) on the benefits of Public-Private (Non-profit) partnerships for Stormwater management and ecological restoration and enhancement at the APWA Chicago Metro Expo. Key projects included the Fullersburg Dam Removal in Oak Brook and the Lower DuPage River Restoration in Plainfield.

SMC and the Village of Wauconda celebrated the completion of the Bangs Lake Outfall Improvement Project with a ribbon cutting today in Wauconda. This project will help alleviate flooding and manage the lake level.

The infrastructure improvements included almost 4,000 feet of stream improvements, along with a new lake outfall structure, retaining wall, storm sewer and box culvert. Additionally, restoration efforts included planting native vegetation to improve water quality.

This is one of 16 projects we’re working on thanks to the second round of funding we received from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. We’re excited for the impact it will have on area residents and visitors!

Recently Hey and Associates, Inc. conducted a fish survey on Diamond Lake in Mundelein, Illinois. Field Service Manager Jeremy Husnik, Senior Aquatic Scientist Len Dane and Environmental Scientist III Zach Lesniewicz sampled four locations around the lake and collected the fish encountered. The fish were then measured, and weighed before being returned to the lake. This data will be used to write a report summarizing the status of the fish population in the lake and Len will provide recommendations for future fisheries management.

Last night, Hey supported The Conservation Foundation 2026 Earth Day Benefit Dinner. It was an amazing event to continue to protect and restore our region's open space, natural lands and water.
