We had a great event last night at the Friends of Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge Fall Gathering. We conducted a live interactive drone flight that was displayed on 2 televisions powered by a battery pack. Dave Kraft, Hey’s Principal Civil Engineer, narrated details about the restoration approach while the drone, flown by our Field Services Manager Jeremy Husnik, brought the physical work to life. The drone flight uniquely showed the results of the hydrologic restoration that has been conducted on the Tamarack West parcel along Tryon Grove Road in Richmond, IL, currently owned by Openlands. The work was made possible by a federal grant administered through the NRCS. Nice turnout and perfect weather.

Please join us in welcoming Sarah Skowronski, to our Hey Team! Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is a Professional Wetland Scientist, Certified Wetland Specialist in Lake and McHenry Counties, and a Certified Arborist. She resides in West Dundee, IL where she enjoys spending time at parks along the Fox River with her husband and two daughters and visiting local farmers markets on the weekends.

The Friends of the Forest Preserve District has canceled its Duck Race today due to inclement weather conditions and for the safety of our Forest Preserve District staff and Fullersburg Woods visitors. Heavy rains overnight and through this morning have increased water levels in Salt Creek, making conditions unsafe to launch and collect rubber ducks.

The Friends will instead conduct a random drawing of the rubber duck registrants, and prize winners will be contacted after the draw.

We will also share the results on Aug. 3 on Facebook at dupageforestfriends.

Hey and Associates sponsored the second annual Friends of the Fox River El Cardunal (Elgin, Carpentersville, East and West Dundee, and Algonquin) canoe and kayak event on the Fox River on Saturday. Several of Hey’s staff joined the paddle and enjoyed a beautiful morning on the water.
